The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking a Legislative Advisor and Securities Manager to join the Department of Justice's Legal Registries Division in Yellowknife.

This role combines legislative and policy development with specialized work in securities regulation. You will help ensure NWT legislation remains current with national initiatives, contribute to the development of regulatory instruments and provide advice on complex legal and policy matters affecting Legal Registries and capital markets.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Legal Registries, you will lead and coordinate legislative and policy initiatives, conduct research, prepare legislative proposals and briefing materials, and work closely with legislative counsel and other jurisdictions. The position also supports the Office of the Superintendent of Securities by reviewing regulatory matters, participating in national securities initiatives and, when required, overseeing securities operations.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and coordinate legislative and policy projects for the Legal Registries Division.
- Research and develop legislative proposals, rules, orders,



briefing materials and consultation documents.
- Work with legislative counsel and national organizations to support harmonization of NWT legislation with Canadian initiatives and reforms.
- Review securities filings, registration applications and other regulatory submissions for compliance with applicable requirements.
- Participate in Canadian Securities Administrators committees and other interjurisdictional initiatives affecting securities regulation.
- Provide advice on securities legislation, regulatory requirements, compliance issues and confidential information.

Qualifications

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

- A relevant university degree, combined with three years of experience in a policy, legislative or program setting.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- This is a Position of Trust and requires a criminal records check.
