Role Overview

AltaML is seeking a Manager, Software Engineering to lead a delivery pod where technical excellence and team health are equally important.

The role owns architectural integrity, removes blockers, supports on-time and on-scope delivery, and maintains an AI-first engineering standard.

The manager sets the technical bar, develops the team, and keeps clients and stakeholders confident in delivery outcomes.

Engineering Approach

- AltaML describes itself as an AI-first company where Claude Code and shared configuration and skills libraries are the default way engineers design, build, test, and review software.
- Applicants are asked to share an example of AI-assisted coding, such as a pull request, repository, or recorded session.
- The company expects delivery estimates and commitments to reflect productivity gains from AI-assisted development.

Technical Execution
- Guide architectural decisions and set technical direction for robust, scalable solutions aligned with company standards.
- Champion AI-assisted development and hold the pod to the required engineering standard.
- Remove blockers, facilitate technical discussions, and partner with delivery teams on active projects.
- Lead or participate in cross-pod technical guilds including Frontend, AI/ML, and DevOps.

People Leadership
- Run regular one-to-one meetings focused on career growth, performance, and wellbeing.
- Provide timely feedback and support individual development plans.
- Foster an inclusive,



psychologically protected environment where engineers can perform effectively.

Responsible AI and Quality
- Ensure models and systems are explainable, fair, and auditable throughout the solution lifecycle.
- Champion responsible AI guidelines and development best practices across the pod.
- Manage end-to-end solution quality in partnership with the pod lead from design through deployment.

Stakeholder and Resourcing
- Communicate pod progress, risks, and outcomes to internal stakeholders and external clients.
- Maintain alignment between project requirements and delivery teams.
- Support pre-sales and business development with solution architecture input, demonstrations, and technical questions and answers.
- Conduct hiring interviews and contribute to engineering candidate assessment.
- Assist with quarterly resource allocation planning across the pod.

Qualifications

- At least 5 years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a technical lead or management role.
- Hands-on fluency with AI coding tools such as Claude Code or an equivalent.
- Experience driving architecture decisions and maintaining engineering quality in a fast-paced delivery environment.
- Experience managing and developing engineers across different levels.
- Familiarity with AI/ML solutions and modern MLOps or software delivery practices.
- Experience championing responsible, ethical AI and inclusive team culture.
