Senior Electrical & Automation Engineer

Pay Rate: $112.00/hour, depending on experience

Contract Length: 1 year

Raise is currently hiring a Senior Electrical & Automation Engineer on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada

Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.

Description The Non-Integrated Areas (NIA) Planning & Strategy team has an exciting prospect for a Senior Electrical & Automation Engineer tojoin a collaborative generation planning team comprising 10 other engineers dedicated to generating electricity for 14 isolated microgrids that serve over 20 primarily Indigenous communities.

As the asset owner, the NIA group is accountable for capital and maintenance planning for 17 diesel generating stations and 1 run-of-river hydro facility. Our Client iscurrently integrating grid-scale battery energy storage and advanced microgrid control systems to enable community-owned renewable energy projects. This initiative involves applying leading-edge, first-of-its-kind systems.

Responsibilities

Act in the role of Professional of Record or Owners Engineer in Electrical, Automation, Protection and Control disciplines for all of NIA’s generation & energy storage facilities

Provide technical support for diesel generation systems & energy storage facilities for off grid communities (100 kW – 10 MW) comprising of:

Diesel gensets and associated cooling systems, protection, controls, instrumentation, switchgear and fueling systems





Battery energy storage & power conversion systems, protection, controls, instrumentation, and switchgear

Design, program, troubleshoot and commission a wide variety of intelligent electronic devices including: Generator and station PLC’s and HMI’s, Fuel system PLC’s, Governor controls, SCADA systems, Protection relays and communication devices, and Microgrid controllers

Prepare technical documentation including control narratives, specifications, standards, hazard logs, inspection & test plans, test procedures & reports, installation & commissioning procedures, operation & maintenance procedures, condition assessment reports, drawings and cable schedules

Witness factory acceptance testing and oversee site installation and commissioning of diesel gensets, battery energy storage systems and associated equipment.

Work with electrical maintenance crews and CPC Technologists to sign off on repair and re-commissioning of protection, control and automation devices.

Help develop capital and maintenance plans

Utilize MS CoPilot to enhance innovation and efficiency

Qualifications

Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience, with demonstrated technical knowledge of diesel and hydro-electric generation.

Technical Proficiency: Hands‑on experience with the following PLC, HMI, SCADA, and IED manufacturers: Allen Bradley

Siemens

Schneider

SEL

Wonderware





Demonstrated experience leveraging artificial intelligence tools in engineering workflows.

Competencies

Excellent written, verbal communication, organizational, and conflict resolution skills.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with field crews, peers, and senior management.

Valid Drivers License

Education and Certifications

Degree in Electrical Engineering

P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired

Additional Information

Must be located in lower mainland as they are required in office 2 times a week (Wed and Thurs)

Required to travel to facilities in off-grid and remote communities for a minimum of 5 weeks per year

Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.

Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”.This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
