About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Substation Engineer to join their established engineering department in Kimberley . This role is critical for the design, implementation, and maintenance of electrical substations that are vital for power distribution and transmission networks. You will work on projects involving high-voltage equipment, protection systems, and control infrastructure, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the electrical grid. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in power systems engineering and a proven ability to manage substation projects from concept to completion, contributing to the robust energy infrastructure of the Northern Cape.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and engineer electrical substation layouts, including high-voltage equipment selection, busbar arrangements, and grounding systems.
- Develop protection and control schemes for substations, including relay settings and coordination studies.
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations for substation projects.
- Oversee the construction, installation, and commissioning of substation equipment, ensuring compliance with standards and project requirements.




- Perform site inspections and investigations, providing technical support and troubleshooting for existing substation facilities.
- Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in substation design and engineering.
- Proficiency in substation design software, such as AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar.
- Solid understanding of high-voltage equipment, protection relays, and control systems.
- Knowledge of relevant electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
