Description
Parking and Transportation within AVP Strategy Enterprise Comm is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Team Lead, Maintenance and Operation Services.
Reporting to the Director, Parking and Transportation Services, the Team Lead, Parking Maintenance and Operations Services provides hands-on leadership for parking maintenance, operations, asset management, and technology support. The incumbent will direct work of the team while actively participating in inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, maintenance activities, operational projects, and field work alongside team members.
This is a working leadership position where the incumbent is expected to lead by example, complete operational and maintenance tasks as part of the team and provide technical expertise and guidance to support daily operations.
The Team
Lead is responsible for ensuring parking infrastructure, equipment, access control systems, parking technologies, pay stations, signage, and related assets are maintained in a safe, reliable, and cost-effective manner.
A key focus of the role is supporting the continued modernization of Parking and Transportation Services by evaluating parking payment infrastructure, including more than 100 pay stations, QR-code-based payment options, mobile payment applications, and customer usage trends. The position is responsible for developing and implementing a long-term strategy to optimize and significantly reduce pay station inventory while maintaining service levels, accessibility, customer satisfaction, and revenue performance.
The Team Lead develops and maintains Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), preventative maintenance programs, asset inventories, and operational standards that support service reliability, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Success in this role requires maintaining a strong collaborative working relationship with the Manager, Parking and Transportation Services, ensuring regular communication, effective coordination of operational priorities, alignment of departmental initiatives, and seamless support of maintenance, operational, and modernization objectives across the parking portfolio.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Ensure parking equipment and infrastructure are maintained to operational standards.
Maintain asset inventories and maintenance records.
Monitor contractor performance and service delivery.
Promote continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
Evaluate customer adoption of QR code and mobile payment technologies.
Support modernization, asset optimization and lifecycle planning initiatives.
Workforce Support - 40%
- Maintain regular communication and a strong working partnership with the Director and Manager, Parking and Transportation Services to ensure alignment of operational priorities, maintenance activities, service delivery expectations, and modernization initiatives.
- Lead by example through active participation in field work, maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and operational assignments alongside team members. Perform maintenance and operational work alongside staff.
Maintenance and Asset Management - 30%
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Create,
implement and monitor preventative maintenance plans.
- Coordinate maintenance of parkades, lots, pay stations, access control systems and parking infrastructure.
- Support capital and operational projects.
Modernization and Service Optimization - 20%
- Evaluate pay station deployment, utilization and inventory across campus.
- Assess more than 100 pay stations for operational effectiveness, customer demand and maintenance requirements.
- Advance QR code and mobile payment solutions.
- Develop and implement a plan to significantly reduce pay station inventory while maintaining customer service levels, accessibility and revenue performance. Analyze operational data and recommend service improvements.
Leadership - 10%
- Provide day-to-day directions, coaching and mentoring.
- Coordinate schedules, priorities and contractor activities.
- Support onboarding, training and development.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Journeyperson certification, technical diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in maintenance, facilities management, parking technologies, transportation systems, operations, or a related field.
- Post-secondary education or training in business administration, management, leadership, project management, operations, or a related discipline is considered a strong asset.
- Supervisory experience within an operational, maintenance, facilities, transportation, or technical workplace.
- Demonstrated experience leading staff in a hands-on work environment, including coaching, mentoring, training, and performance support.
- Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and preventative maintenance programs.
- Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, contractor coordination, and project support skills.
- Experience with automated systems, parking technologies, payment systems, access control systems, mobile payment applications, and software platforms.
- Experience evaluating operational performance, asset utilization, and service delivery to support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, develop recommendations, and support business cases related to operational improvements and technology modernization.
- Strong organizational, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands and respond effectively to operational issues in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with asset management, lifecycle planning, inventory management, and maintenance scheduling is considered an asset.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver Licence and an acceptable driver's abstract.
