Technical Writer / Technical Documentation Specialist

Remote- Canada

Position Overview

We are seeking a Technical Writer / Technical Documentation Specialist to create, maintain, and improve high-quality technical documentation supporting IT systems, infrastructure, and internal processes.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical writing and documentation experience, along with hands-on knowledge of SharePoint, Windows environments, PowerShell, Microsoft Word/Excel, and workflow automation.

Key Responsibilities

- Create, edit, and maintain technical documentation using established templates, standards, and branding guidelines.
- Work with engineering, infrastructure, support teams, and customers to gather requirements and validate documentation.
- Manage and organize technical documentation within SharePoint, including version control and site structure.
- Maintain SharePoint sites and associated Azure Automation workflows supporting documentation processes.
- Edit and format existing documents for consistency and quality.
- Translate complex technical concepts into explicit documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborate with technical teams to ensure documentation accurately reflects current systems, configurations, and procedures.
- Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot PowerShell and command-line scripts supporting documentation and automation.
- Keep documentation current with change management and operational updates.
- Create and manage change controls, incidents,



and tasks in accordance with IT service management processes.

Mandatory Skills & Experience

- 3–5 years of technical writing or technical documentation experience, preferably in IT, infrastructure, or enterprise technology.
- 3–5 years of strong written and verbal English communication experience.
- 3–5 years hands-on experience with Microsoft Word and Excel, including advanced formatting, templates, and basic data manipulation.
- 3–5 years experience working with Windows operating systems and enterprise technologies.
- 2–4 years hands-on experience with SharePoint for document management, collaboration, and site maintenance.
- 1–3 years experience with Azure Automation or similar workflow automation tools.
- 2–4 years experience writing, reading, and maintaining PowerShell and command-line scripts.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Skills

- Exposure to C#, Python, or other programming/scripting languages.
- Experience working in Agile and/or DevOps environments.
- Understanding of IT infrastructure, including networking, servers, and cloud platforms.
- Experience with Git, Confluence, or similar documentation/version-control tools.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
