Your Voice Matters Program Presenter, Diefenbaker Canada Centre (Prince Albert, SK)

Primary Purpose: Sponsored by Elections Saskatchewan, Your Voice Matters is an education program offered throughout the province for students in grades 4-12. YVM is currently delivered to students in Saskatoon, Regina and surrounding communities. This position will help establish a new Prince Albert-based programming hub, facilitating the continued growth and expansion of YVM to communities throughout Saskatchewan Nature of Work: Reporting to the Programs and Outreach Coordinator, Diefenbaker Canada Centre, the YVM Program Presenter will deliver the Your Voice Matters: Building a Better Saskatchewan (YVM) program to students in Prince Albert and surrounding areas. The YVM program comprises multiple topics, including federal, provincial, and Indigenous governance; political involvement; and Canadian citizenship, democracy, and voting.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

- Learn the YVM program and its current modules using interpretive guides, PowerPoints, and activity materials. Make updates and revisions to program materials as required
- Deliver full- and half-day YVM programs to students in grades 4-12 based in Prince Albert and other areas in northern Saskatchewan. This includes organizing all program materials, planning logistics, presenting PowerPoints and other media in an active and engaging manner, running themed activities for an entire class, answering pertinent questions, conducting surveys, and engaging with educators
- Gather reporting information by recording the number of students, school name, school district, and other relevant information from each program booking

Education: Completion of an undergraduate degree, ideally in education, political studies, public policy, history, or another field focused on Canadian governance. Current students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree may also be considered. Completion of Masters in a related field is considered an asset.

Experience:





- Experience in educational programming delivery and/or classroom work is required
- Experience working with youth and the general public is required
- Experience presenting information and leading activities is preferred
- Knowledge of the Saskatchewan school curriculum is preferred
- A combination of experience and education may be considered

Skills:

- Desire to work with people, particularly youth (grades 4-12)
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills, featuring a skilled, responsive, pleasant, and effective manner
- Knowledge of and/or passion in the areas of Canadian and provincial governance, elections, and history
- Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license
- Regular access to a personal vehicle is required and the incumbent must be able to travel within Prince Albert (to schools) and surrounding communities as requested
- Organizational skills and the ability to set and adhere to work priorities and meet deadlines while working on multiple projects
- Ability to solve problems effectively and independently
- Reputation for establishing and building mutually supportive relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders while demonstrating tact, diplomacy, and intercultural sensitivity
- Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated combined with the ability to take direction, work effectively, and show initiative
- Demonstrated effective punctual, organizational, and time-management skills
- Must be able to provide a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check upon request
- Ability to communicate in French (written and oral) would be considered an asset
