Our client, a major international Freight Forwarder, has a need for a Transborder Trucking

Transportation Specialist

Overview:

Ensure daily, error-free, cost-effective movement of inbound and outbound freight across provinces and North America, with a relentless focus on OTIF performance, accurate documentation, carrier coordination, and real-time problem solving.

Willingness to be trained in International Freight Forwarding Operations, Air/Ocean Inbound/Outbound. Existing Air/Ocean experience a plus.

Key Responsibilities:1. Daily Freight Execution – Outbound (Primary Focus)

· Schedule pickups with approved LTL, FTL carriers.

· Verify freight readiness with Warehouse Supervisors before confirming pickups.

· Produce accurate BOLs, customs documents, packing lists, weight/dimension sheets.

· Ensure correct NMFC classifications and hazmat notations where required.

· Sequence shipments to maximize on‑time departure and reduce dwell time.

· Track key outbound loads and update stakeholders on exceptions.

2. Inbound Freight Coordination

· Arrange inbound LTL/FTL pickups from mills, suppliers, and subcontractors.

· Monitor inbound delays and escalate when material impacts production or customer commitments.

· Maintain inbound ETA tracker visible to Inside Sales, Planning, and Warehouse.

3. Real-Time Problem Solving & Exception Handling

· Respond immediately to carrier delays, missed pickups, reweighs, reclassifications, border holds, or damaged freight.

· Resolve issues directly with carriers and update internal teams.

· Work with Warehouse to correct recurring packaging/labeling issues.

4. Cross-Border, Customs & Compliance

· Prepare or verify NAFTA/USMCA documentation, commercial invoices, and export declarations.





· Coordinate with customs brokers to explicit shipments quickly.

· Prevent border delays through complete and accurate paperwork.

5. Freight Cost Control (Tactical)

· Select appropriate carriers following routing guides and service requirements.

· Avoid unnecessary accessorial charges through correct booking and packaging.

· Validate freight invoices and report discrepancies.

6. Data Accuracy & System Updates

· Maintain accurate shipment data including dims, weights, tracking numbers, and carrier selection.

· Update daily freight dashboards for OTIF, on-time pickup %, and exceptions.

· Support OTIF root‑cause categorization.

7. Collaboration & Communication

· Act as day-to-day contact for Warehouse, Inside Sales, Planning, and carriers.

· Provide fast updates on urgent orders and late-day shipments.

· Participate in daily production/logistics huddles.

Required Skills:

· 2–4 years in transportation coordination, dispatching, or warehouse shipping.

· Strong understanding of freight classes, paperwork requirements, and cross-border shipments.

· High competency in ERP/TMS systems with strong accuracy in data entry.

· Ability to work in fast-paced environments with tight pickup windows.

· Strong communication skills with carriers and internal teams.

· Detail-oriented with consistent paperwork accuracy.

Success Measures

· OTIF – Outbound % on target.

· Daily pickup reliability improvement.

· Accuracy of freight documentation (zero reclass/reweigh penalties).

· Reduction in exceptions and border delays.

· Accurate and timely communication with Sales & Warehouse.

· Freight cost per lb maintained within approved carrier guides.

Pay rate: $30-$32 an hour plus bonuses.

Working hours: Onsite days with possibility of hybrid work after a period of time.
