Community Homes for Children (CHC) is one of the many services offered by New Directions; this program provides homes for children and youth with behavioral and emotional difficulties. Our community-based resources promote a sense of belonging and provide opportunities to engage in a meaningful life. This is achieved by creating a home environment that welcomes the participation of the child or youth as a member, supporting his or her interests and goals, and helping maintain and strengthen the bond between the child or youth and his or her significant others. We provide an environment that is non-judgmental, safe and caring. Community Home for Children operates 24 hours, 7 days a week, in fast-paced shift staffed homes operated by New Directions.Responsibilities (but are not limited to)Case managementCounselling and developing treatment plansSupervising and evaluating staffSupporting children and youth living in the homesOrienting, training and scheduling staffTracking home maintenance and repairsBudgeting, balancing and accounting for monthly expenditures and administrative dutiesLiaising with schools, neighbours, and social workersWorking shifts, including cooking and light housekeeping duties during applicable shifts, and participating in the on-call rotationQualifications and requirements for this roleApplicants must have a B.S.W./B.A. (psychology, social work, or related field)



with experience working with children in care and knowledge of licensing regulations for children’s residential settings.Minimum of three years’ experience working with Level 4/5 children and youthMinimum one year of supervisory experience in a community-living settingExcellent problem-solving skills.Ability and commitment to work with high needs children and youth.Strong organizational skills are required for this position.Ability to transfer knowledge and awareness into behaviors and expectations recognized as appropriate by members of identified cultures and by people with lived experienceKnowledge of behavioral management and trauma-informed strategies are assetsExperience with harm reduction approaches is considered an assetValid driver’s license with access to a safe, reliable vehicle for work purposesFluent in Microsoft Office Suite of applications including Word, Outlook, and ExcelCurrent First Aid/CPRUnderstanding of person-centered approachFluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is considered an assetNonviolent Crisis Intervention training is considered an assetThe salary range for this 1-year Term, 40 hour per week, full-time position is $22.34–$29.04 per hour (equivalent to $46,479.47 to $60,421.09 annually) dependent upon education and/or experience.
