Driven by our desire to help students thrive in their academic and personal lives, the Saanich School District provides quality educational programs and a secure and nurturing learning workplace for the over 7,000 culturally diverse students within its 18 schools. Serving the Saanich Peninsula located just north of Victoria, BC, the district has one of the highest graduation rates in the province and a student body that consistently scores well on annual assessment tests, thanks in large part to the dedication and efforts of our 900 teaching and support staff.

Position - Temporary Teacher

Assignment Type - Temporary to the return of the incumbent

FTE/Point Time - 0.5 Point Time

Schedule: Semester I - Block 1 and 4

Qualifications

A valid BC Teaching Certificate
Commitment to support the full range of student abilities
Effective communication skills with students, parents and colleagues
Commitment to continuing career development
Successful experience with adapting and modifying materials for a diversity of learners
Working knowledge of using computing technology to support learning
A commitment to the Principles of Inclusive Schools and Principles of Learning

Required Qualifications




Bachelor of Education (Secondary)
Post-Graduate Diploma or Master’s Degree in Special Education including University course work in the following (or equivalent) courses:
Student Exceptionality
Assessment for Special Education
Collaboration and Consultation in Special Education
Behavioural, Social and Emotional Needs
Assistive Technology
Teaching Students with Developmental Difficulties
Differentiating Instruction/Inclusive Classrooms
Advanced Assessment and Intervention
Five years of demonstrated successful classroom/Instructional Support teacher experience

Desirable Characteristics/Attributes
Demonstrated use of highly successful instructional strategies in the classroom for secondary school age students
Ability to work closely as a member of a team
Effective communication skills, demonstrated through positive relationships with students, staff and parents
