This Job Opening is limited to Aboriginal Persons indigenous to the present boundaries of the Northwest Territories and includes any aboriginal person resident at birth and any Canadian aboriginal persons who have lived more than half of their life in the Northwest Territories.
Limited Competition This job opening is limited to residents living within 25 kilometersof Inuvik, NT.
Department Information The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), supports capable, accountable and self-directed community governments providing a safe, sustainable and healthy environment for community residents.
Job Information This position is located in Inuvik and reports to the Regional Superintendent. The incumbent is responsible for providing effective and productive administrative support services to the entire regional office. Work priorities are varied in response to requests from the Superintendent and other departmental staff.
The Administrative Assistant is the first point of contact with the public, and is frequently called upon to exercise judgement with regard to knowing when to forward phone calls, what meetings take priority, and what commitments to make on behalf of staff members. The incumbent must uphold positive customer service and maintain confidentiality as appropriate.




Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to apply standardized office and administrative procedures
An ability to write, edit, and format documentation so that they are clear and easy to understand
proven organizational and time management skills
Proven ability to use computer software for such things as spreadsheets, word processing, databases and presentations
Knowledge of basic records management policies procedures including records disposition, standards and classification systems
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
Diploma in Office Administration and 3 years general office experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
