The District of Lake Country Utility Labourer or Utility Operator About the Chance The District of Lake Country has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Utility Labourer or Utility Operator (40 hours per week) based in Lake Country, BC. Reporting to the Utilities Manager, the Utility Labourer or Utility Operator is responsible for performing utility operations relating to the safe and effective operation of District Water Systems. Utility operations include construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of water supply and distribution systems, pump, pressure regulation, pressure release, air and/or vacuum valves, fire hydrants, treatment facilities, hydro plant, intake structures, dams, reservoirs, and appurtenances. The incumbent must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and requires a high degree of technical problem solving and valuable interpersonal and communication skills. Utility Labourers or Utility Operators may also perform other related duties working with other District departments as required.
More About You To qualify for this role as a Utility Labourer, you must have a minimum of grade 12 education, a minimum of one year’s experience in water distribution and waterworks construction,



preferably in a municipal setting, and a valid British Columbia Class 5 Driver's License. To qualify for this role as a Utility Operator, you must have one year towards a diploma in water engineering technology or similar; a minimum of one year of experience in water distribution or waterworks construction, preferably in a local government utility setting; valid Water Operator EOCP certification; Chlorine Handlers Certificate (BCWAA) or qualifies to obtain; and a valid British Columbia Class 5 Driver's License. Above all, we value a collaborative attitude, fostering positive working relationships with staff, and tactfully conveying information and policies to the public.
About the Advantages
The hourly rate of pay for this unionized position as a Utility Labourer will be $35.80 (2026 wage rate);
The hourly rate of pay for this unionized position as a Utility Operator will be based on the level of qualifications in EOCP and years of experience but will start at $37.69 per hour (2026 wage rate);
