The Township of Guelph/Eramosa is looking for a Contract Hearing Officer to ensure fair adjudication of municipal by-law appeals under the Administrative Penalty System. This role relies on your knowledge of legal procedures and impartial decision-making.

In this contracted position, you will adjudicate appeals and assess administrative penalty decisions made by Screening Officers. Your responsibilities will entail conducting hearings—mostly virtually—while adhering to applicable by-laws and ensuring fairness. The Hearing Officer will issue oral and written decisions that reflect an unbiased perspective on all appeals presented.

Key Responsibilities:
• Make fair rulings on penalty appeal decisions
• Conduct hearings in accordance with procedural law




• Review documentation depending on APS guidelines
• Issue final decisions on administrative penalties
• Attend and actively conduct hearings on set schedules

Requirements:
• Membership in relevant adjudicators’ associations preferred
• Experience in municipal law and adjudication
• Solid ethics, communication, and organization skills
• Ability to maintain a current Criminal Record Check
