Job Summary This Research Assistant position will provide research-oriented support to projects focused on understanding the epidemiology of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and environmental determinants of disease.

The Research Assistant will assist with IBD research studies and other research related tasks to support the program''s initiatives under the guidance and direction of Dr. K.

Jacobson.

Responsibilities will include working with IBD registries, heath administrative databases, assisting with data acquisition and analysis, assisting with REB protocol development and submissions, writing reports and manuscripts and assisting with writing grant applications.

The research assistant will also provide assistance to trainees working in the IBD program.

Organizational Status The Research Assistant will support the IBD Research Program''s initiatives under the guidance and direction of Dr Jacobson.

Work Performed Work performed will include (but is not exclusive to): Assist with REB protocol development and submission Requests for and assists with the management of health admin databases from the various authorities/organizations, e.g.

DataBC and CANUE Assist with data acquisition, data cleaning, coding and analysis Writing reports and assisting with the preparation of manuscripts based on results from completed data analyses Assisting with writing and submission of grant applications Conducting computerized literature searches as needed, reviewing articles and compiling annotated bibliographies Preparing documents, including correspondence, posters, presentations, and quarterly reports Supporting projects of the IBD Program as needed Performing other related duties as required Consequence of Error/Judgement Errors in judgement would impact negatively on the Research Program''s reputation and productivity.





Supervision Received The Research Assistant will work under the guidance and direction of the Dr Jacobson.

Supervision Given Assist trainees working in the IBD program.

Minimum Qualifications Completion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications Master''s degree in health sciences or related field will be considered a major asset.

Expertise in geo-spatial mapping.

Fluent with data validation and analysis activities.

Ability to effectively use MS Word, Excel, Power

Point.

High degree of computer literacy with ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, internet and electronic mail applications (on PC and Mac OS) at an intermediate level.

Experience with project evaluation, database management using software such as SAS and R, online literature searches and web-based applications an asset.

Ability to take and transcribe accurate meeting minutes and follow up on action items with ease.

Superior organizational and time management skills.

Effective scientific writing, oral and written communication, interpersonal, and multitasking skills.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, for both academic and community audiences.

Ability to work both independently and within a team workplace.

Attentive to detail, with the ability to work quickly and accurately.

Ability to exercise tact and discretion when handling sensitive and/or confidential matters.
