Your opportunity:
The Manager, Global Alumni Engagement & Inter-portfolio Initiatives leads strategic alumni engagement initiatives that advance University priorities and strengthen relationships with alumni in key local, national, and global markets. The role develops and delivers innovative programs, partnerships, and experiences that build affinity, foster meaningful connections, and support long-term engagement outcomes.

The Manager leads holistic engagement planning for priority markets, integrating alumni programming, leadership engagement, volunteer activation, divisional collaboration, and Advancement objectives. Acting as a strategic connector across Alumni Relations, Development, academic divisions, and University portfolios, the incumbent identifies opportunities to leverage alumni engagement in support of shared goals and translates institutional priorities into meaningful alumni experiences.

Working closely with divisional and central partners, the Manager develops a solid understanding of DUA operations, engagement priorities, academic strengths, research initiatives, and campaign objectives to support collaboration, coordinated delivery, and the integration of compelling faculty and thought leadership content into engagement programs.

A significant component of the role is leading U of T's Alumni Innovator engagement strategy, strengthening connections among alumni entrepreneurs, innovators, investors, and industry leaders and the University's innovation ecosystem. The Manager develops programming and engagement opportunities in key innovation markets and helps showcase U of T's innovation strengths to influential alumni communities.





The incumbent also develops engagement initiatives that support student recruitment, transition, and success; contributes to senior leadership engagement strategies in priority markets; and leads complex cross-functional projects involving multiple University partners. Working closely with Development colleagues, the Manager ensures engagement activities create meaningful opportunities for relationship building, stewardship, and philanthropic growth.

The successful candidate is a highly collaborative relationship builder who exercises sound judgment, influences without authority, and thrives in complex environments while balancing diverse stakeholder interests and institutional priorities.

Your responsibilities will include:

Developing and implementing targeted outreach initiatives

Developing and implementing alumni engagement activities that support strategic objectives

Developing strategies that maximize outreach to students

Developing and implementing communication plans that support strategic objectives

Implementing programs that allow current students and alumni to engage with one another

Developing plans that support recruitment strategies

Developing and maintaining relationships with contacts whose cooperation is important to the University

Conducting detailed analysis and evaluation to determine trends/patterns and make recommendations to senior university officials

Essential Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.

Minimum five (5) years’ of relevant experience in leading alumni outreach and/or alumni programs within a higher education environment.

Experience establishing and managing effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders in order to deliver outcomes

Demonstrated experience in facilitating engagement and fostering relationships with a variety of stakeholders, ideally alumni

Experience planning and executing alumni initiatives with a proven track record of success

Experience with developing and conducting program analysis through review of relevant metrics and KPIs

Experience with student recruitment an asset: working within an international recruitment office, organizing recruitment events for prospective, admitted and accepted students,



and experience working with small groups (e.g. guidance counsellors, et al.) to promote the university

Proficient in both in-person and virtual program delivery

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and sometimes competing projects and priorities; strong oral and written communication skills; advanced analytical skills, including the ability to assess data from multiple sources in order to make informed decisions and recommendations

Ability to influence without authority and demonstrate a high degree of tact and diplomacy is essential; particularly in managing relationships across all levels of management within a highly matrixed organization

Proven ability to lead and inspire colleagues and volunteers; demonstrated through solid leadership, volunteer management, conflict management, and problem solving skills

Excellent relationship management skills and the ability to network and confidently represent the University while engaging with volunteers, donors, prospective students and their families

The incumbent must be able to function effectively in a political context, and deal with sensitive issues that must be handled in a way that meets the University’s responsibilities and respects the rights of alumni; and must be capable of developing collaborative relationships with a wide variety of individuals and groups across the University often with competing interests

Be able to handle a busy, diverse and challenging workload; exhibiting sound judgement and sensitivity to delicate relationships between alumni and the University; be able to design programs and services with attention to alumni relations best practices
