Job Title: Data Center Fiber Technician Job Description This role focuses on large-scale fiber optic installation and commissioning within mission-critical data center environments. You will pull, splice, test, clean, and certify thousands of fiber optic connections across multiple data halls, ensuring reliable network performance in a fast-paced, high-volume setting. The position involves hands-on work with armored fiber cabling, fusion splicing, and detailed documentation while collaborating closely with project teams in active construction and operational data center facilities.
Responsibilities Pull and install armored fiber optic cabling throughout data center facilities, including new construction and refurbishment projects.
Perform high-quality fusion splicing on fiber optic cables, with a focus on accuracy and long-term reliability.
Test, certify, and troubleshoot fiber optic infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and adherence to project specifications.
Clean and inspect fiber connections using appropriate tools and methods to maintain signal integrity and network uptime.
Terminate and label fiber optic cabling according to established standards, drawings, and cabling schedules.
Conduct OTDR and power meter testing to validate fiber performance and identify potential issues.
Document test results, installation details, and configuration changes, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
Work safely in active construction and data center environments, following all site safety policies and procedures.
Coordinate with project teams to maintain installation schedules, meet milestones, and uphold quality standards.
Support high-volume deployments involving thousands of fiber strand connections across multiple data halls.
Interpret and work from construction drawings and fiber cabling schedules to execute installations correctly.
Collaborate with other technicians and trades involved in power, cooling, racks, and cabling to ensure cohesive project delivery.
Adapt to rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, while maintaining productivity and attention to detail.
Perform physically demanding tasks in construction and data center settings, including extended periods of sitting and splicing work.
Essential Skills At least 2 years of fiber optic installation and fusion splicing experience in data center or mission-critical environments.
Proven experience pulling armored fiber optic cable in large facilities or construction sites.
Solid hands-on fusion splicing skills, including high-volume splicing work.
Experience testing, cleaning, and certifying fiber optic infrastructure using industry-standard tools.
Experience working with multimode fiber systems in data center or similar environments.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and fiber cabling schedules accurately.
Comfort working rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, based on project and site requirements.
Ability to work in a physically demanding construction and data center environment, including extended periods of focused splicing work.
Experience with both multimode and single-mode fiber optic systems.
Solid troubleshooting skills for low voltage and data cabling infrastructure.
Experience with fiber optic testing equipment, including OTDR and power meters.
Proficiency using common hand tools in electrical, construction, and cabling work.
Attention to detail when terminating, labeling, and documenting fiber optic connections.
Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with copper cabling, including installation and termination.




Background in facilities maintenance or data technician work.
Exposure to electrical and construction environments, including working alongside other trades.
Experience with power, cooling, racks, and structured cabling in data centers.
Familiarity with low voltage systems and data cable installation.
Relevant industry certifications such as CSTS or similar safety and technical credentials.

Work Environment The role is based on active data center and construction sites, with technicians typically living in hotels or camp‑style accommodations alongside the crew. Work involves both new construction and refurbishment in air‑cooled facilities that can be cold in winter, with dusty conditions typical of construction environments. Most of the workday is spent in a designated area performing splicing and related fiber tasks, requiring extended periods of seated, detailed work. Travel to and from sites is organized via carpooling or buses, with commuting time supported. There are three primary shifts and corresponding living arrangements: a 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. shift based in one town with bus transportation to the work site and paid commuting time (approximately 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. total day), a 3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. shift based near the site, and an 11:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. shift also based near the site. Overtime varies by shift, and days off differ, with some shifts offering both Saturday and Sunday off and others providing Sunday only. Work is performed using standard hand tools, fiber splicing equipment, OTDRs, power meters, and other low voltage and cabling tools in a mission‑critical data center workplace.
Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Prince George, BC.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $42.00 - $52.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
