Continuing Education Teacher - Personal Support Worker Program Location In person living classroom instructor for North Bay, Cassellholme. Instructor may have students in various locations and therefore, some travel may be necessary.
Position Near North District School Board is pleased to offer the Personal Support Worker certification within our Continuing Education Program. The Near North District School Board, through the Ontario Association of Adult and Continuing Education School Board Administrators, offers Personal Support Worker (PSW) certification to mark successful completion of the program. The PSW certification is recognized by the Long-Term Care Association of Ontario. Graduating students gain secondary school credits, co-operative education experience and certification as graduates of the program .
Continuing Education positions are contract positions expected to begin in October of 2026 (dependent on student enrollment).
Job Summary The Continuing Education Instructor for the Personal Support Worker (PSW) Program is responsible for preparing students to develop the knowledge, skills, and professional practices required to succeed as Personal Support Workers. The instructor will provide both classroom and practical instruction, including demonstrations of essential PSW skills and techniques. In addition, the instructor will assess and evaluate student performance, provide constructive feedback, and support students in developing the competencies required for success in clinical, placement and workplace settings. The instructor will guide students in the safe and effective application of PSW skills and support their readiness for employment in the healthcare sector.




Duties and Responsibilities Engage students using a systematic plan that consists of demonstrations, discussion groups, interactive activities, independent and group learning
Support the development of practical curriculum and prepare learning that can be housed and accessed through the Learning Management System (LMS)
Administer assessments and evaluate student progress toward learning goals – specific to placement
Provide timely and explicit feedback to adult students – specific to placement experience and skills
Attend regular team-oriented team meetings
Adhere to the program standards – CESBA, MOE, MLTC, NNDSB
Maintain student daily attendance using online tools
Maintain and update student files (as required)
Maintain a valid Class G Driver’s License and reliable vehicle
The program runs for a total of 660 hours and includes classroom learning time, clinical/lab instruction and clinical or community placements for students. The student placement portion is approximately 330 hours.
Rate of Pay: $ 44.10 hourly
Education and Experience Applicants must be a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN)and have a minimum of five years’ experience. Additional consideration will be given to those who have experience working as a PSW. Preference will be given to applicants who are Certified Teachers in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers and those with experience working in long-term care settings.




Please note that non-qualified teachers who hold the other required qualifications may apply to this posting, with the intention of teaching under a "Letter of Permission" from the Ministry of Education (as arranged by NNDSB upon hiring).
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
Experience with CESBA quality assurance process
Experience teaching in a Living Classroom environment
Experience developing and delivering courses within a Learning Management System (LMS) and using Edsby for student reporting and communication.
Experience working in both long-term care and community care settings is considered an asset.

Strong knowledge of current healthcare practices, standards, and patient care procedures.

Excellent communication, organizational, and student support skills.
