Bookkeeping Manager & Pod Lead

Remote – Canada

Role The Bookkeeping Manager & Pod Lead at Argento CPA drives timely, accurate financials that power real business decisions. You'll lead a pod of 2–4 bookkeepers serving a portfolio of $2–10M founder-led businesses — multi-entity structures and payroll and sales tax that take real judgment — ensuring tight month-end closes, clean books, and proactive financial operations. This role is about speed, quality, and clarity, so our CFOs can deliver strategy without delay.

This is a public practice leadership role, not a single-company controllership. You'll own the books for many businesses at once, run onboardings, and review your team's work — which takes a controller's judgment applied at a pace and breadth most industry controllers never see.

You'll be the bridge between the bookkeeping team and the CFO, owning reviews, systems, training, and process improvement. If you love clean numbers, building systems, and helping founders get clarity, you'll thrive here.

External Responsibilities

- Act as the primary financial operations partner for a group of CFO-led client accounts.
- Oversee and review client bookkeeping files for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Own and improve the month-end close checklist — clear deadlines, team assignments, and reporting expectations.
- Train clients on Dext, QBO, Plooto, and Wagepoint or Knit, and build systems for consistent data flow.
- Ensure compliance with payroll tax and sales tax (GST/HST, PST).
- Work with clients and CFOs to surface missing information, fix issues, and streamline processes.

Internal Responsibilities

- Review team bookkeeping work with precision and speed.
- Lead quality control: flag gaps, enforce standards,



and keep every file audit-ready.
- Improve workflows for transaction recording, categorization, reconciliations, and documentation.
- Support onboarding of new clients: chart of accounts setup, system mapping, and data migrations.
- Train and mentor bookkeepers — instilling discipline, structure, and judgment.
- Recommend and implement SOPs and automation opportunities.

How We'll Measure You (Scorecard)

- Month-end close completed within 10 business days across assigned clients.
- New clients fully onboarded within 30 days (systems live and first clean month-end close delivered).
- Zero unreconciled balances or material errors in reviewed files.
- 90%+ of clients submit receipts, payroll, and sales data on time.
- High internal team ratings on clarity, support, and process improvement.
- Client financials delivered on time so CFOs can run timely strategy calls.
- Consistent improvement in bookkeeping turnaround, quality, and documentation.

What You Bring

- 5+ years of public practice experience in accounting, bookkeeping operations, or controller-level review.
- Experience leading bookkeepers and owning results across 10+ client files in public practice.
- CPA, CPB, or PCP is a bonus, not required if backed by strong bookkeeping management experience.
- Expert in QuickBooks Online, with experience in Dext, Plooto, Wagepoint, Knit, and Xero.
- Deep understanding of bookkeeping principles, payroll taxes, and sales tax.
- Confidence reviewing books, flagging issues, and enforcing high standards.
- Systems thinker: able to spot bottlenecks, build SOPs, and drive change.
- Calm under pressure, quick with deadlines, and relentless about better systems.
- Excellent communicator with a coaching mindset.

Compensation

- Base Salary: $90,000 – $100,000 CAD
- Bonus Plan: Tiered performance bonus of up to 20% of base salary annually, based on Labour Efficiency Ratio (LER) and operational metrics (month-end close time, onboarding deadlines).
