The Equity and Inclusion Office (EIO), under the auspices of the Vice Provost, Equity and Inclusion, has a wide-ranging responsibility to collaborate with both campus and community partners. Our mandate includes identifying and resolving equity and inclusion issues, providing advisory services, promoting awareness and education on accessibility, equity, and inclusion, and facilitating the implementation of policies and practices that ensure fair and timely resolution of incidents related to harassment, discrimination, and sexual violence, including investigation services.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director, Sexual Violence Prevention, the Coordinator, Sexual Violence Prevention (C SVP) is a central resource for university community members. The C SVP will be responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating campus-wide prevention education efforts, including community awareness-raising events and social norms campaigns; prevention education and response training programs and activities; communication and promotion of services, supports, and resources. The Coordinator will coordinate and deliver prevention education programming using a holistic, anti-oppressive, intersectional, and trauma-informed lens.
The Coordinator will collaborate with staff in the Equity & Inclusion Office (EIO) and campus and community partners to coordinate and deliver effective community awareness, education, and training programs.
Accountabilities
Program Coordination and Communication
With consultation and in partnership with key consulted groups, plan, implement and evaluate campus-wide gender-based and sexual violence prevention efforts, including community awareness-raising events and prevention education and response training programs and activities
Ensure programming is aligned with the EDIA framework and strategy for campus gender-based sexual violence prevention
Work collaboratively with the Equity and Inclusion Educator and campus and community partners, as well as the team of student staff and volunteers, to coordinate and deliver effective community awareness, education and training programs using a holistic, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, intersectional, trauma-informed and person-centred approach
Establish, maintain, and promote collaborative relationships with campus partners and with partners in relevant community organizations
Contribute to regular reviews of the Sexual Violence Policy and institutional educational plan
Liaise with the Presidents’ Advisory Committee on Building an Inclusive Community’s (PACBIC) Gender-Based Violence Working Group as required
Participate on various relevant campus committees as required related to gender-based and sexual violence
Develop resources and materials using multiple forms of communication, including social media platforms, to promote services, supports, and resources, as well as to deliver educational and training content
Prevention Education Training
Provide input on the design of content for prevention education and response training programs and activities, which situate incidents of gender-based and sexual violence
Participate in relevant sexual violence prevention and response working groups and/or committees mandated to initiate and promote effective campus awareness-raising, prevention education, and current gender-based sexual violence prevention and response scholarly research and trends, legislative requirements, and Provincial directives
Work with partners to identify and implement initiatives that reflect emerging evidence-based practice for shifting attitudes, behaviours and culture about gender-based and sexual violence
Maintain statistics on the number and reach of events, campaigns, programs and activities and review data related to the events. Administer evaluation tools to determine the efficacy of prevention programming
Coordinate year-round sexual violence prevention and response training targeted toward a variety of populations (including but not limited to) student leaders, faculty, and staff with responsibilities for receiving disclosures, faculty and staff with supervisory responsibilities, and those whose day-to-day responsibilities involve working closely with students
Coordinate orientation week gender-based and sexual violence awareness-raising and skill-building activities for all new students, in collaboration with Residence Life, the Welcome Week Planning Committee, and relevant campus and community partners
In partnership with the Student Wellness Centre (SWC) Wellness Education Team, the Equity and Inclusion Education Team, The President’s Advisory Committee on Building an Inclusive
Community (PACBIC), and relevant McMaster Student Union services, develop and implement
annual awareness-raising events, prevention education and response training programs and activities
Delegate, lead and co-supervise up to three (3) peer educators.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Social Work, Critical Race and/or Gender Studies/Feminist Research, Law, Public Policy and Administration)
Experience
At least three to five years of experience working in a related field, with demonstrated experience delivering educational programming to a diversity of audiences, preferably in a University setting
Experience training students, staff and faculty preferred
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
Knowledge/Skills
A strong anti-racist and anti-oppressive, intersectional, and trauma-informed analysis of gender-based and sexual violence
Experience educating a diversity of individuals on issues related to gender-based and sexual violence
Experience working with a range of Indigenous and equity-deserving groups
Demonstrated integrity, tact, and discretion, especially in handling sensitive information
Ability to work independently and sound judgments about when to consult about, collaborate on, or elevate an issue
Proven ability to build relationships,
contribute to a respectful team environment and work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners.
Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills
Demonstrated project and event planning, implementation and evaluation skills
Proficiency in MS Office software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software applications
Efficient use of a case management system.
The ability to leverage the web and social media platforms for communication is an asset.
Pay Transparency Statement
The posted hiring range represents McMaster's typical hiring range for this position. Actual starting salary will depend on factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, internal equity, and market conditions.
Individuals with extensive experience, deep specialized expertise, and/or those who can demonstrate exceptional past performance, as applicable, may be hired at a higher rate within the full range, in accordance with the University compensation policies.
