What activities must be performed by the consultant?

The consultant will support the stabilization of the SAP Yard Logistics solution at Bear Island, focusing on the problems identified in the “Problems to Solve” backlog.

The documented problems and expected outcomes include restoring stable Shunter application performance; eliminating duplicate dock doors; correcting delta-based door-assignment prioritization; resolving Transportation Unit assignment conflicts; automatically activating outbound hook-load tasks; generating the correct inbound Yard Order; determining dock destinations automatically; preserving Yard Order search criteria; and allowing L60H Transportation Units to move to outbound doors.

What deliverables are expected?

The consultant should provide

1. Initial assessment and prioritized work plan

- Confirmed understanding of each problem.
- Proposed sequencing of the work.
- Identification of prerequisites, dependencies, and information gaps.

1. Root-cause analysis document

- Root cause or most probable cause for each investigated problem.
- Supporting technical evidence.
- Impacted SAP components, configurations, developments, integrations, or business processes.

1. Corrective-action recommendations

- Recommended solution for each investigated problem.
- Estimated complexity, risk, and remaining effort.
- Identification of quick wins versus structural corrections.

1. Implemented corrections

- Assist IT for any configuration or development changes completed within the mandate.
- Applicable technical specifications and change documentation.
- Evidence that the changes were tested.

1. Testing package

- Test scenarios.
- Test results.
- Defects or exceptions still outstanding.
- Business validation status.

1. Final stabilization report

- Problems resolved.
- Problems partially resolved.
- Problems requiring additional work.
- Residual risks.
- Recommended follow-up plan.

1. Knowledge-transfer package

- Technical documentation.
- Troubleshooting guidance.
- Knowledge-transfer session with the internal support team.

Recommendations, execution, or both? Both.

The consultant is expected to:

- Diagnose issues and provide technically supported recommendations.
- Coach the Cascades IT Team to implement the corrections that are approved, sufficiently understood,



and achievable within the available timeframe and budget.
- Clearly identify items that cannot safely be completed within the mandate.

Important scope control: The four-week duration and CAD 25,000 budget should not be interpreted as a commitment to resolve every listed problem. The first phase of the mandate should confirm which items can realistically be addressed. The engagement should prioritize operational stabilization and high-impact corrections rather than maximizing the number of closed problem records.

1. Required Expertise

What technical skills are required? The consultant should demonstrate strong expertise in:
- SAP Yard Logistics.
- SAP S/4HANA logistics processes relevant to Yard Logistics.
- Yard Orders, Yard Tasks, Transportation Units, doors, locations, and yard movements.
- Inbound and outbound yard-process configuration.
- Automatic door assignment and destination determination.
- SAP application troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
- SAP performance analysis, including memory consumption and application slowdowns.
- Analysis of custom SAP developments and enhancements.
- SAP debugging and log analysis.
- Functional and technical testing.
- Change and transport documentation.

Experience with mobile or tablet-enabled yard processes would be an asset because the broader stabilization program also references the use of iPads to support operational execution. What specific experience should the consultant have?

The preferred consultant should have:

- Previous hands-on experience stabilizing a live SAP Yard Logistics implementation.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting Yard Logistics incidents in a production environment.
- Experience with Transportation Unit movements, door assignments, Yard Order generation, and Yard Task activation.
- Experience resolving performance issues involving custom applications or SAP backend processing.
- Experience working directly with logistics operations and technical SAP teams.




- Experience taking an issue from diagnosis through correction, testing, documentation, and handover.
- Experience operating within a short, outcome-focused mandate.

Is knowledge of a particular industry required? Experience in a manufacturing, warehousing, transportation, or distribution environment is preferred.

Specific pulp and paper industry experience would be beneficial, but it should not be mandatory if the consultant has sufficiently strong SAP Yard Logistics experience in another asset-intensive or high-volume logistics environment.

What certifications or qualifications are important?

Preferred qualifications include

- Relevant SAP certification in S/4HANA logistics or a closely related SAP solution.
- Formal SAP Yard Logistics implementation or support experience.
- Demonstrated technical or functional expertise that can be validated through prior mandates.

Certification should be considered an asset rather than a substitute for recent, hands-on SAP Yard Logistics experience. What level of autonomy is expected?

A high level of autonomy is required.

The consultant should be able to:

- Review existing information independently.
- Structure the investigation.
- Facilitate focused working sessions.
- Identify missing technical evidence.
- Recommend priorities.
- Coordinate corrective work.
- Escalate decisions and risks promptly.
- Produce complete documentation without continuous direction from Cascades.

The consultant must nevertheless obtain approval before making production changes or materially altering the agreed scope.

Recommended requirements

- English: Advanced professional proficiency, required for collaboration with Bear Island operations and for producing documentation.
- French: An asset for collaboration with Cascades’ Québec-based teams.
- Work arrangement: Primarily remote, with availability for virtual working sessions during Eastern Time business hours.
- In office presence: No.
- Commitment: Sufficient availability to complete the equivalent of four weeks of work within the agreed delivery window.
- Engagement model: Full-time availability is preferred during critical diagnosis and testing periods; a part-time arrangement may be accepted if the supplier demonstrates that it will not affect continuity or delivery.
