Our team of over 5,500 employees performs more than 400 unique jobs, and we are dedicated to delivering service that attracts nearly 1.1 million passengers daily and connects people, businesses, and communities in the Metro Vancouver region.ResponsibilitiesAppoint a key resource to advise and guide managers and supervisors in the interpretation, application, administration, and resolution of issues under the Unifor, MoveUP (COPE), and CUPE collective agreements, including related Letters of Understanding. Provide ongoing support for discipline, performance management, medical/rehabilitation placements, staffing, classification, and organizational change, and participate in the collective bargaining process, conflict resolution, and tactical plan development to strengthen the corporation’s labor relations objectives.Key AccountabilitiesProvide day‑to‑day advice on applying and interpreting collective agreements and Letters of Understanding.Represent management in resolving union issues, analysing identified problems, ensuring adherence to agreements, researching precedents, and recommending defensible solutions.Liaise with unions, research grievance background, prepare reports and settlement options, and negotiate agreements within approved parameters.
Prepare grievance responses and represent the company in expedited arbitrations and other administrative tribunals.Offer informal resolution guidance for workplace issues such as harassment, staffing selection, performance, attendance, and organizational change before formal grievances arise.Analyse proposals for job exclusions and challenges, prepare cases, and negotiate or argue before the Labor Relations Board.Coordinate Freedom of Information/Protection of Privacy (FOI/POP) material, review releases, and ensure compliance with legislation.Develop options related to medical and rehabilitation placements, accommodation duties, and cross‑jurisdictional matters, and negotiate appropriate salary treatments with the union.Attend seminars and courses to remain current on industry trends and developments.Participate in the collective bargaining process: research workplace impacts, set bargaining strategies, chair component tables, draft agreement language, and prepare negotiated settlements for ratification.Advise on tactical plans and joint committees addressing corporate-wide labor issues, deliver management overviews and training seminars, and draft policies to ensure consistency on non‑bargained subjects.Perform administrative functions including drafting manual revisions, estimating counsel costs, approving retainer letters, and directing the Labour Relations Analyst and Confidential Assistant.EducationUniversity degree in Labour Relations or a related discipline.QualificationsUniversity degree in Labour Relations or a related discipline.ExperienceRequires four (4)
years of prior experience in labor relations within a similar workplace, involving administration of collective agreements, participation in collective bargaining, handling grievances, developing strategies, and advising management on a broad range of labor relations issues.Recruitment ProcessAn applicant must demonstrate suitability by meeting the minimum qualifications and experience to be invited into the selection process. A structured interview format will be used, including general, scenario, and behavioural descriptive questions.Work Schedule37.5 hours per week.This is a full‑time temporary position for approximately 12 months.Work DesignationHybrid – flexible working on‑site and remotely within B.C.Rate of PayThe salary for this position ranges from $84,480 to $126,720 per annum. Actual salary offered will be based on education, experience, skills, and qualifications as they relate to the role.
