This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Technical (Construction) Risk Analyst based in Canada.

This role combines technical construction expertise, risk analysis, underwriting support, and field-based assessment across Ontario.

You’ll evaluate builder performance, construction practices, warranty trends, and other indicators to identify potential risks before they become larger issues.

The position provides technical guidance to underwriting teams and helps translate field observations and file data into practical recommendations.

You’ll work directly with builders, consultants, internal teams, and regulatory or enforcement stakeholders when required.

The role offers a balance of independent home-office work, analytical responsibilities, and frequent travel to construction sites throughout Ontario.

Your expertise will contribute to stronger building practices, informed risk decisions, and improved consumer protection outcomes.

It is well suited to a construction professional who enjoys combining technical knowledge with investigation, analysis, communication, and problem-solving.

Accountabilities

- Analyze builder and vendor risk using past performance, warranty outcomes, claims information, construction practices, interviews, and other relevant indicators.
- Conduct on-site reviews with builders to assess construction practices, identify potential future warranty and claims risks, and recommend practical mitigation measures.
- Provide guidance on improved construction methods and educate builders on practices that can reduce risk and improve building quality.
- Review underwriting files at the request of underwriters, including claim drivers, outstanding reserves, emerging trends, and other risk indicators, and provide timely recommendations.
- Conduct technical risk assessments and interviews with new and existing builders to evaluate construction competency and identify potential areas of concern.
- Review builder conduct and other underwriting concerns, supporting analysis and recommending appropriate actions.
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to underwriting teams to support timely and well-informed decisions.




- Liaise with warranty services and other internal stakeholders to connect construction observations with warranty performance and claims outcomes.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, inspection reports, warranty assessment reports, consultant reports, and related technical documentation.
- Maintain accurate statistical information, records, schedules, and other operational documentation.
- Generate reports and contribute to initiatives designed to identify trends, improve risk assessment, and strengthen underwriting practices.
- Work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams, builders, consultants, and external stakeholders.
- Travel frequently by car to assigned construction and business locations throughout Ontario while maintaining a productive home-office environment.

Requirements

- 3–5 years of relevant construction experience, preferably involving freehold residential construction.
- Community college diploma or equivalent education in building science, construction, or a related technical discipline.
- Practical knowledge of residential construction, including structural systems, HVAC, plumbing, and building-envelope components.
- Robust understanding of building science and the relationship between construction practices, builder competency, warranty performance, claims outcomes, and future risk.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and residential construction practices in Ontario.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, inspection reports, warranty assessments, and consultant documentation.
- Strong analytical, observational, problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical findings and recommendations to varied audiences.
- Sound judgment, discretion, confidentiality, and the ability to manage sensitive or potentially contentious situations professionally and empathetically.




- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment while managing competing priorities effectively.
- Strong time-management and interpersonal skills, combined with a proactive and self-directed approach.
- Above-average computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and internet-based tools.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence and reliable transportation, as frequent travel to assigned locations is required.
- Reliable high-speed internet access for the home-office component of the role.
- Ontario Building Code BCIN qualifications in Legal (General) and Part 9 (Home) would be considered an asset.
- Equivalent combinations of practical construction experience, technical education, and relevant qualifications may also be considered.
