We are seeking an organized, dependable, and service-focused 0.7 FTE Unit Clerk to join our Nursing team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a busy health care environment, supporting residents and families, and helping keep the day-to-day operations of a nursing unit organized and running smoothly.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Care and/or Registered Nurse in Charge, the Unit Clerk provides clerical, reception, and administrative support for the nursing unit.

As an important point of contact for residents, families, visitors, and members of the interdisciplinary team, the Unit Clerk helps coordinate day-to-day unit activities while maintaining a welcoming, organized, and professional environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent customer service, strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy long-term care setting.

The hours of work is 8:00am to 4:15pm on a rotational 2 weeks with 1st week being Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday and 2nd week as Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide clerical, reception, and administrative support for the nursing unit.
- Greet and assist residents, families, visitors, employees, and other health care professionals in a friendly and professional manner.
- Respond to inquiries and direct individuals to the appropriate person or department.
- Support the coordination of day-to-day activities and administrative functions of the nursing unit.
- Collect, organize, and communicate relevant information to appropriate members of the care team in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential records and documentation.
- Communicate effectively with the Director of Care, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Health Care Aides, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.




- Promptly communicate potential risk management concerns or urgent matters to the Director of Care and/or Registered Nurse in Charge.
- Communicate respectfully and effectively with residents, including those living with cognitive impairment.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident, employee, and organizational information at all times.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service and build positive relationships with residents, families, visitors, employees, and volunteers.
- Promote and protect resident dignity, privacy, autonomy, personal beliefs, and individual choices.
- Respond effectively to changing priorities and operational needs throughout the day.
- Participate in workplace training and education as required.
- Follow Salem Manor policies and procedures, Workplace Health and Safety requirements, and applicable Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
- Identify and report hazards, incidents, unsafe conditions, and other concerns promptly.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

- One-year Community College diploma/certificate in Business Administration or a Unit Clerk Certificate/Diploma preferred.
- Previous experience working with seniors or in a health care environment is preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Accurate keyboarding and data-entry skills.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.




- Strong observation and problem-solving skills with the ability to recognize urgent or reportable concerns.
- Demonstrates tact, discretion, sound judgment, professionalism, and respect when working with residents and families.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to perform work involving sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, squatting, and moving throughout the shift.
- Ability to frequently lift, push, or pull approximately 25–30 lbs.
- Ability to respond appropriately to urgent or emergent situations as required.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with residents, including individuals living with cognitive impairment and responsive behaviours.

Pay: From $20.31 per hour
