Job Description: Assistant Controller – Payroll Administrator

POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Controller reports to the Financial Controller and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable departments. This position is also responsible for processing biweekly payroll for approximately 100 employees. In collaboration with the Financial Controller, the Assistant Controller supports fixed asset tracking and depreciation, account reconciliations, and year-end financial audits. The successful candidate must be able to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and consistently demonstrate the highest level of integrity.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ACCOUNTING

- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable departments.
- Process biweekly payroll accurately and on schedule.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and maintain accounting records using the company’s financial software systems.
- Prepare for and assist with internal and external audits.

PAYROLL

- Review employee information, time records, and hours worked.
- Update and maintain accurate employee payroll records.
- Process biweekly payroll accurately and on schedule.
- Review and process commissions and employee expense reports.

TEAM LEADERSHIP

- Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable departmental culture.




- Coach and mentor team members to support their qualified growth and performance.
- Create meaningful learning and development opportunities for each team member.
- Review the performance and work quality of direct reports and provide constructive feedback.

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL SUPPORT

- Collaborate with and provide support to other departments to achieve organizational objectives

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

- Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- A professional accounting designation is considered an asset but is not required.
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises, and applicable financial reporting requirements.
- Strong computer skills and experience with accounting and payroll software; knowledge of SYSPRO, Avanti, and Traild is considered an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and accounting skills.
- Demonstrated supervisory and people-management skills.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is considered an asset.

The successful candidate will be proficient with computers, confident interacting with customers and colleagues, and capable of solving problems and managing multiple priorities. They will be ambitious, self-motivated, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

Pay: $60,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
