Your Prospect:

The Peer Support Worker (PSW) plays a vital role in fostering connection, safety, and engagement with individuals experiencing or at risk of drug poisoning within the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) campus. Drawing on their lived experience with substance use, recovery, and positive system navigation, the PSW provides non-judgmental, empathic support to clients and assists them in accessing timely medical and recovery-oriented care. The PSW works as part of a dedicated on-campus response team, paired with a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Protective Services personnel, reporting to the Care Manager, to provide immediate outreach, harm reduction, and recovery-focused engagement to individuals following drug poisoning events or substance-related crises. This collaborative team responds directly across the RAH campus to ensure clients receive compassionate support, reduce stigma, safety assessment, and connection to appropriate medical, psychosocial, and addiction services. Working collaboratively with the broader RAAM team—including addiction medicine clinicians, nurses, social workers, and community partners—the PSW contributes to a rapid, coordinated response that reduces barriers, promotes recovery, and builds trust at critical moments of need.

As a Peer Support Worker, you will provide interventions and supports that are complementary to the work of a multi-disciplinary outreach team.



The team functions together to provide treatment, rehabilitation and support services for the diverse needs of clients navigating life impacting experiences. Through your own lived experience(s), and experiences of recovery and resilience, as the Peer Support Worker, you can authentically inspire hope to clients by sharing your story, offering mentorship and support; advocating for client needs; and supporting an integrated and resiliency/recovery-oriented health care and treatment experience.
