Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and experienced full-time editor to join a growing independent production team creating unscripted and factual programming for broadcast and digital audiences.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can manage complex source material, identify the strongest stories within unscripted footage and move episodes from initial ingest through final delivery. The successful candidate will work closely with the executive producer to shape compelling episodes while maintaining factual accuracy, organized workflows and strict version control.

This is an active vacancy that we intend to fill. The position is a one-year, full-time contract based primarily on-site in Toronto. Regular working hours are Monday to Friday during standard business hours. Attendance at production locations will also be required.

The editor will report directly to the executive producer.

Responsibilities

- Ingest, organize, sync, proxy and maintain multi-camera footage, audio, photographs, documents and archival materials using approved production systems.
- Create stringouts, scene assemblies, rough cuts, fine cuts and final episodes using field footage, interviews, meetings and observational sequences.
- Collaborate with the executive producer to strengthen story structure, character development, pacing, continuity and overall episode clarity.
- Turn complex technical, business and policy subjects into clear and engaging visual stories without overstating the facts.
- Perform initial sound cleanup, colour correction and graphics integration within the edit.




- Coordinate with specialist sound, colour, graphics and finishing support when required.
- Track editorial notes, revisions, approvals and versions accurately throughout every stage of production.
- Maintain clear naming conventions, secure backups, organized media libraries, project-file integrity and complete handoff packages for every episode.
- Review footage and edits for missing material, unsupported claims, continuity issues, clearance concerns and technical problems, and raise concerns early.
- Create occasional approved trailers, promotional videos and social media edits.
- Prepare final exports and conduct initial quality-control checks against the broadcaster’s written technical requirements.
- Work toward established milestones for assemblies, rough cuts, fine cuts, picture lock and final delivery.
- Provide concise progress updates and identify changes in scope or scheduling before they place delivery deadlines at risk.
- Follow all confidentiality, legal review, clearance and release instructions provided by production leadership.

Qualifications

- Three or more years of professional editing experience, preferably in documentary, factual, unscripted television, broadcast or premium digital series production.
- A strong portfolio or editing reel demonstrating long-form story construction, dialogue editing,



pacing, continuity and technical quality.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro or another professional non-linear editing system.
- Experience with Adobe Audition or DaVinci Resolve is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of multi-camera workflows, mixed-format footage, video formats, codecs, colour correction, audio cleanup and broadcast delivery requirements.
- Proven ability to organize and manage a high volume of footage and media assets securely.
- Solid storytelling instincts and the ability to identify clear narratives, character arcs and meaningful moments within unscripted material.
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly when managing versions, editorial notes, approvals and final exports.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet production deadlines without compromising quality or factual accuracy.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with production leadership and other creative professionals.
- Good judgment when handling confidential footage, documents and sensitive subject matter.
- Ability to work primarily on-site in Toronto and attend production locations as required.
