Youth Facilitator

Reports To: The Director, Program Manager, Operations Supervisor

Position Overview:

Under the direct supervision of the Director, Program Manager and Operations Supervisor of Makoon Transition Inc. following with the organization's mission, vision and goals the Youth Facilitator will assist in providing support and extracurricular programs to the youth at Makoon Transition Inc.. This is a temporary position with a duration of 6 months.

Responsibilities:

- Design and implement engaging evening programs, including games, movies, and workshops tailored for indigenous children aged 5 to 15 years of age.
- Ensure cultural sensitivity and relevance in all activities.
- Lead activities with a focus on inclusion and respect for Indigenous cultures.
- Adapt programming to meet the specific needs and interests of the children, ensuring every child has the opportunity to socialize and interact.
- Build trusting genuine relationships with children, fostering a safe and supportive environment.
- Support each child’s individual needs, including those of children with special needs, while fostering positive interactions and an inclusive environment for all participants.
- Proactively manage evening programming with minimal supervision while maintaining a clean and organized space for activities.
- Work closely with other staff members and the management team to ensure culturally appropriate programming.
- Engage with parents and guardians to communicate about children’s participation and well-being.
- Complete detailed documentation after each shift regarding interactions with the children, noting any significant events or observations.
- Ensure all documentation is submitted promptly and accurately.
- Be willing to accompany children on outings from the building, ensuring their safety and enjoyment during these activities.
- To be prompt for each shift and ready to work in a positive manner.
- Sign in and out daily for accountability of attendance and tracking of time.
- Follow all rules,



policies and regulations enforced by Makoon Transition Inc. and be a positive role model.
- Promote a secure, positive workplace culture by preventing lateral violence and upholding organization standards.
- Attend staff meetings, participate in family events and team building activities.
- Maintain strict professional boundaries with resident families, internal staff and external partner agencies.
- Protect the integrity and work culture of Makoon Transition Inc.
- Communicating any concerns or issues to the Director and management immediately.
- Follow the chain of command and communications process internal and external of Makoon Transition Inc.
- Conduct program evaluations being done with the Youth for tracking and reporting..
- Knowledge of Indigenous issues and culturally relevant approaches and practices are essential.
- Notify your supervisor of any absence at least 8 hours before your shift, and submit leave requests at least 2 weeks in advance.
- Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines regarding all clients, conversations and business practices.
- Respond to all work emails in a timely manner with professionalism.
- Ensure no unapproved visitors enter the premises.
- When responding to emergency or crisis situations and/or contact 911, Director and management.
- Ensure no drugs, alcohol or illegal substances enter the building.
- Respond to family’s questions or concerns with empathy and professionalism.
- Must do a daily shift summary.
- Other Duties as assigned.

- Demonstrate patience and empathy when supporting children with complex needs, including those who have been in care and have since reunified with their families.

Qualification:





- A Child and Youth Care Diploma or equivalent education is required with 2 years experience.
- Relevant experience working with Indigenous children, particularly those affected by the child welfare system.
- Experience and knowledge of First Nation Families and community issues facing families at risk, ability to incorporate cultural elements into programming.
- Outgoing personality with a talent for engaging and motivating children.
- Must be able to work evenings from 1PM - 9PM, Monday to Friday.
- Experience with dealing with conflict resolution for families healing from trauma.
- Must have a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence, preferred access to a personal vehicle for work-related transit.
- CPR & First Aid Certification
- Mental Health First Aid & De-escalation Training
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Agreement to undergo drug and alcohol screening as required to ensure workplace and client safety.
- Strong administrative skills, including accurate case documentation and efficient typing speed. Proficient in Google workspace, Microsoft Office and share drive navigation.
- Efficient typing speed of 40+ words per minute
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly articulate care plans to clients, colleagues, and external professionals.
- Exceptional time-management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks while supporting multiple family units.
