Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Dean of the School of Engineering Technology (SET), the Electrical Laboratory Technician provides day-to-day technical support for the Electrical teaching laboratories. The incumbent is responsible for preparing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing laboratory equipment to support scheduled classes and ensure equipment is safe and operational.

Responsibilities:

- Maintains laboratory equipment to ensure it is operational for scheduled classes.
- Diagnoses and repairs equipment faults using established diagnostic procedures, manufacturer documentation, and standard troubleshooting techniques.




- Responds to equipment issues assigned through the work order system.
- Performs routine maintenance, testing, and minor repairs on laboratory equipment.
- Documents work completed and updates work orders
- Prepares laboratory equipment and materials for scheduled classes.
- Provides technical assistance to faculty and students during laboratory activities.
- Assists with troubleshooting equipment during scheduled labs.
- Refers complex technical issues to the supervisor or external service providers when required.
- Maintains accurate equipment, inventory, and work order records.
- Updates technical documentation and troubleshooting information.
- Provides orientation and day-to-day guidance to co-op students and recent staff on established procedures and safe equipment operation.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned in support of School of Engineering Technology teaching laboratory operations.
- Assists in day-to-day services, projects, and other operational needs across College campuses as needed in cases of leaves, vacancies, or other extenuating circumstances.

Qualifications/Experience

- Two (2) year diploma in Engineering Technology (or a related field) and/or Certificate of Qualification (CoQ) as Tool and Die Maker, General Machinist, Electrician, Industrial Mechanic Millwright, or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of relevant experience with preference for previous experience working in an electrical laboratory setting in a relevant field or post-secondary educational institution.




- Experience in troubleshooting and resolving a variety of hardware- and software-related problems.
- Demonstrated electrical knowledge in the following areas: Electric Circuits, Electrical Motor Controls, Instrumentation, Digital Electronics, Electronic Devices, and Electrical Installation
- Demonstrated competent written, oral and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with a team
- Demonstrated understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion to meet the needs of our diverse students, staff and college community
- Experience and familiarity with standard computer applications, including using Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, web-based software and tools (ex. SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.), and service request ticket systems (ex. ServiceNow).
- Experience and skill in writing documentation, including technical and/or procedural documentation.
