Senior Dispatcher – Open Deck Operations

The GTI Group is currently seeking an experienced Senior Dispatcher – Open Deck Operations to join our growing team.

This is a hands-on operational role for someone who understands the realities of over-the-road transportation and takes ownership of keeping trucks moving. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the operation, including dispatching, load planning, customer communication, customs, quoting, driver coordination, and fleet utilization.

We are looking for someone with a solid Open Deck / Flatbed background who can contribute immediately and who has the potential to grow into a team leadership role as our operation continues to expand.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM
After-hours and occasional weekend availability is required when operational needs arise.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Plan, book, and dispatch trucks based on customer shipments, driver availability, equipment requirements, and delivery schedules.
- Take ownership of assigned trucks and proactively work to ensure equipment remains productive and utilized.
- Communicate directly with existing and prospective customers regarding available freight, shipment requirements, rates, and scheduling.
- Source freight through Loadlink and other load boards when required to keep trucks moving.
- Negotiate freight rates and secure loads that align with operational requirements and available equipment.
- Prepare and submit required Canada/U.S. customs documentation, including customs clearances, bond requests, and ACE manifests.
- Ensure all customs documentation is properly completed and provided to drivers in advance to minimize delays at the border.
- Coordinate cross-border shipments between Canada and the United States and ensure applicable documentation and requirements are met.
- Review load dimensions, weights, equipment requirements, routing, and legal axle-weight considerations when planning shipments.
- Coordinate with customers regarding specific pickup and delivery requirements, including Open Deck requirements such as tarping, securement, and equipment selection.
- Prepare and communicate freight quotes with customers. Additional guidance on GTI's quoting processes will be provided as required.




- Ensure drivers submit bills of lading and all other required documentation to Accounting in accordance with company procedures.
- Assist with driver payroll-related operational requirements and documentation.
- Monitor shipments from pickup through delivery and proactively address delays, changes, or other operational issues.
- Maintain regular communication with drivers, customers, carriers, Sales, and internal teams.
- Assist Dispatch and Operations personnel in other GTI offices when required.
- Support the continued growth of the Open Deck operation and, over time, take on increased responsibility in mentoring and leading other team members.
- Perform other duties as required.

Education & Experience

- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in over-the-road transportation, trucking, dispatch, or freight brokerage – required.
- Open Deck / Flatbed transportation experience – required.
- Previous hands-on experience dispatching trucks and coordinating over-the-road freight.
- Experience with cross-border Canada/U.S. transportation.
- Previous exposure to dispatching, customs, driver payroll, and freight quoting is required. Additional training can be provided on GTI's specific quoting processes.

Required Skills & Knowledge

- Fully bilingual in French and English, with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with customers, prospective customers, drivers, carriers, and internal teams in both languages.
- Strong knowledge of Open Deck / Flatbed transportation, including familiarity with different trailer and equipment types and their appropriate applications.
- Strong understanding of legal axle weights, weight distribution, load dimensions, routing, and transportation regulations related to Open Deck operations.
- Working knowledge of Canadian and U.S. customs procedures and cross-border transportation.
- Experience using Loadlink and/or other freight load boards.




- Comfortable negotiating rates, identifying freight opportunities, and securing loads when required to maintain truck utilization.
- Strong understanding of load planning, dispatching, scheduling, driver coordination, and shipment tracking.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly learn transportation management systems and other operational software.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to manage multiple trucks, loads, customers, and changing priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
- Strong sense of ownership, urgency, accountability, and initiative.
- Must be available to provide after-hours and occasional weekend support when operationally required.
- Willingness to continue learning and expanding knowledge of oversized and specialized transportation.
- Demonstrated leadership potential and an interest in taking on greater responsibility and eventually leading a team.

What We're Looking For

This is not a traditional sales position, but successful dispatching requires a commercial mindset. Our Dispatch team is responsible for keeping trucks moving, which means being comfortable speaking with customers, identifying freight opportunities, negotiating rates, and securing the right loads when necessary.
