Job Information

As a Registered Midwife in Fort Smith, you'll provide full-scope, relationship-based care to growing families, supporting clients through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and newborn care while practicing autonomously within a collaborative healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide comprehensive prenatal, labour, birth, postpartum, and newborn care.
- Serve as the primary care provider and birth attendant for maternity clients.
- Assess, diagnose, order tests, prescribe medications, and manage care within the midwifery scope of practice.
- Coordinate care with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in a shared 24/7 on-call rotation to support clients during pregnancy, labour, and postpartum.
- Provide reproductive health services, pregnancy counselling,



and family planning education.
- Deliver prenatal classes, breastfeeding support, and maternal-child health education.
- Promote culturally safe, relationship-based care for diverse northern communities.
- Participate in quality improvement, program development, and community outreach initiatives.
- Mentor students and healthcare colleagues while contributing to the growth of midwifery services in the Northwest Territories.

Key Qualifications:

- A Baccalaureate degree in Midwifery (Health Sciences) or assessed through a Prior Learning and Experience Assessment (PLEA) program within a Canadian province,
- A minimum of two (2) years' experience in delivering midwifery care as a primary care provider.

Additional Requirements:

- A valid driver's license
- Standard First Aid, CPR (level C)
- Must be eligible for professional licensing in accordance with the Midwifery Profession Act and must be credentialed and eligible for privileges in accordance with the Medical and Professional Staff Bylaws
