Kennedy House (KH) is a not-for-profit organization with a long-standing dedication to providing exceptional personalized care for youth in the Greater Toronto Area for over 50 years. KH started with an initial family-like group home in 1971 and currently operates several residential and community-based programs, for marginalized and at-risk youth, including:

- Two residential program for adolescents in care;
- Two residential programs for youth and young adults living with developmental disabilities;
- Kennedy House Youth Centre, a secure custody facility for male youth experiencing conflict with the law;
- Bailiff services to safely and securely transport youth experiencing conflict with the law;
- Kennedy House After School Program, Breakfast Program and Summer Camp for children aged 4-13 in underserved communities throughout Scarborough; and
- Kennedy House Youth Shelter, for youth aged 16-24 experiencing homelessness.

Position Summary

As a member of the Kennedy House Shelter Team, the Maintenance Supervisor 2, is accountable directly to the Shelter Assistant Manager, and indirectly to the Kennedy House Maintenance Supervisor 1. The Maintenance Supervisor 2 is responsible to clean and maintain the interior and exterior of the Shelter. This position is responsible for supervising the cleaning and junior maintenance staff. Strictest adherence to the organizations policies governing confidentiality, privacy, conflict of interest and safety is expected of this position.

Key Responsibilities and Duties.

· Act as a mediator between city contractors and private contractors to resolve Kennedy House’s building issues.

· Maintain and record monthly and annual fire regulations,



health inspections, mold inspections, pest control, grease traps.

· HVAC- Troubleshoot/repair in heat/AC unit. Perform preventative maintenance on our in-house systems. Filter Changes.

· Maintaining and documenting monthly vehicle inspections.

· Perform electrical inspections/maintenance such as outlet/switch installations, fuse testing and changes, troubleshoot issues, bulb/ballast changes.

· Assist with tracking and stocking shelter’s inventories (i.e intake supplies, hygiene supplies, cleaning products, PPE, etc.)

· Perform plumbing repairs such as snaking/plunging, toilet installations, sink/drain repairs.

· Operate industrial vacuum cleaners to remove scraps, dirt, heavy debris and other refuse.

· Wash windows, interior walls and ceilings

· Empty trash cans and other waste containers

· Sweep, mop, scrub and wax hallways, floors and stairs

· Clean snow and ice from walkways and parking areas

· Clean and disinfect washrooms and fixtures

· Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing and electrical systems, and contact tradespersons for major repairs.

· Must be able to perform minor repairs to building interior/exterior (i.e drywall, painting) areas as highlighted by the Joint Health and Safety Committee.

· May move heavy furniture, equipment and supplies

· Ensure that security and safety measures are in place in the establishment

· Supervise cleaning staff.

Job Qualifications:

· Completion of Secondary school diploma

· Previous cleaning and maintenance experience





· A journeyman/woman certificate in one or more of the trades or a building operator certificate is an asset.

· Knowledge of IPAC (Infection Prevention and Control) practices and requirements is an asset

· Working from heights certification is an asset

· Capable of heavy lifting (food/bed moving/garbage/carpet/ snow shoveling) and navigate stairs

· Positive driving record with current G class Driver’s license

· Clear communication skills with good interpersonal skills

· Required to be on the On-Call Rotation on a rotating basis

· Participate, attend and complete all requisite training and/or learning programs

· Follow all safe work practices, operational and Zero Tolerance policies and procedures and Reporting procedures.

· Certification in First Aid and CPR must be current and maintained

· Broad Record Check must be current and maintained

· Broad awareness of other cultures, values, identities and perspectives with a demonstrated ability and interest in working with and for diverse populations.
