Early Intervention Therapy Assistant: Assistant to the Occupational Therapist & Physiotherapist

Northern Rockies Child Development Association (NRCDA) is seeking a compassionate, dependable and motivated Early Intervention Therapy Assistant to join our interdisciplinary Early Intervention team in Fort Nelson, BC.

This is an opportunity to work directly with children and families while supporting Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy interventions in the places where children naturally live, learn and play.

Position Details

Position: Early Intervention Therapy Assistant – OT/PT
Status: Full-Time
Hours: 35 hours per week
Wage: $29.22 per hour plus benefits
Location: Fort Nelson and surrounding Northern Rockies communities
Reports To: Chief Operations Officer, Executive Director
Clinical Supervision: Registered Occupational Therapist and Registered Physiotherapist

About the Position

Working under the clinical direction and supervision of Registered Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, the Therapy Assistant will carry out established treatment and intervention plans for infants, children and youth.

The position supports children in developing skills that increase their independence, mobility, participation and success in everyday activities.

Intervention may take place in:

- Family homes
- Childcare and early learning programs
- Preschool environments
- NRCDA programs
- Indigenous early learning and childcare settings
- Community programs and activities

What You'll Do

As an Early Intervention Therapy Assistant, you may:

- Carry out OT and PT activities established by the supervising therapist.
- Support children's gross and fine motor development.
- Support mobility, balance, coordination and functional movement.
- Implement therapist-directed sensory and positioning strategies.
- Support self-care and activities of daily living.
- Help children develop greater functional independence.
- Incorporate therapeutic activities into play and everyday routines.




- Provide individual and small-group activities.
- Support children with therapist-recommended adaptive equipment and therapeutic materials.
- Model established strategies for parents, caregivers and childcare staff.
- Observe and document children's participation and progress.
- Communicate observations and concerns to the supervising OT/PT.
- Work collaboratively with families, Early Intervention staff, childcare professionals and other members of the child's interdisciplinary team.
- Participate in ongoing OT/PT supervision, training and competency development.

Qualifications

Preferred education includes:

- Rehabilitation Assistant Diploma;
- Occupational Therapist Assistant/Physiotherapist Assistant (OTA/PTA) Diploma; or
- Equivalent recognized therapy-assistant education.

Equivalent education, qualifications and experience may be considered where the applicant can demonstrate the knowledge, skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the Therapy Assistant role under professional clinical supervision.

We're Looking for Someone Who Has

- Experience working with infants, children and/or youth with developmental delays, disabilities or additional support needs.
- Knowledge of child development and early intervention.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong observation and documentation skills.
- The ability to accurately follow therapist-developed intervention plans.
- The ability to work independently while also being part of an interdisciplinary team.
- An understanding of professional boundaries and when concerns need to be referred to a registered therapist.
- A family-centred,



strengths-based and respectful approach to working with children and families.
- An understanding of culturally safe, inclusive and trauma-informed practice.

Additional Requirements

Applicants must have:

- A valid driver's licence.
- Their own reliable vehicle for work-related travel.
- Appropriate vehicle insurance.
- The ability to travel between family homes, childcare programs and community locations.
- Current First Aid and CPR, or willingness to obtain as required.
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector screening.
- The physical ability to safely participate in therapeutic and play-based activities with children.

Authorized work-related mileage is reimbursed in accordance with NRCDA's mileage reimbursement policy.
