Position Summary:

The Digital Systems Specialist oversees the First Unitarian Church of Hamilton’s digital hardware, software and processes. The role includes supporting Church leadership to implement new software systems, maintaining access control and supporting users, as well as supporting technical aspects and production of digital content for marketing. This role will bridge the technical literacy gap within a predominantly senior demographic. It will maintain and optimize the church’s digital structures and presence through backend management and resource development, as well as maintain a social media presence and the development of analytics for the website and media channels. Working collaboratively with the staff team and volunteers, the DSS maintains the technical infrastructure, supports digital content and media production; and builds the technical literacy of the community.

Organizational Structure & Shared Leadership

The Digital Systems Specialist reports directly to the Minister, who provides guidance, direction and supervision, and is responsible for performance plans, performance evaluations, and professional development. The Digital Systems Specialist must work collaboratively with other staff members, and volunteers alike. In partnership with the Program and Volunteer Manager and the Operations and Administrations Specialist, the staff create a “Scaffold of Support” to ensure program sustainability, operational stability and digital literacy development.

The Digital Systems Specialist is responsible for supporting the infrastructure that helps create stability and sustainability within which our ministries can grow and flourish.

Key Responsibilities:





Technical Infrastructure & Backend Management

- Google Workspace Administration: Manage users and groups, email routing, and Drive and Google Site structure, permissions, and organization to ensure seamless collaboration for staff and volunteers.
- Website Backend Oversight: Maintain the church website, and user accounts, by monitoring and activating plugin updates, ensuring security protocols are met, and verifying backup status.
- Database Resource Management: Act as the primary technical resource for the Realm database, ensuring system integrity and assisting staff with operational workflows.
- Access & Security Control: Securely manage master passwords and digital access credentials for all church-related software and platforms.

Digital Content & Media Production

- Worship Service Media Support: Coordinate pre- and post-service production, including downloading weekly service streams, performing necessary edits, and uploading content to YouTube.
- Digital Asset Management:Manage the church's digital assets library including organizing, editing, and curating assets for social media.
- Social Media & Engagement: Schedule and manage posts for Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Google including creating reels from existing recordings; develop and report on social media analytics.
- Update Outdoor Digital Sign: Update outdoor digital sign with seasonal updates.

Technical Literacy, Training & Support

- Software & Hardware support:including Google Workspace, social media platforms, Zoom; video conference devices, TV / Screen hookups,



and basic computer trouble-shooting
- Support Staff and Volunteers in the use of various technologies: Develop and deliver hands-on training, Develop interactive online training, Organize an ongoing tech-table for drop-in help. Provision of technical trouble-shooting for software and systems.
- Maintain a digital library: of "how-to" guides and video tutorials, Develop specific how-to instructions for staff and volunteer work plans.

Skills & Qualifications

- Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, website backend maintenance, and video editing (Clip Champ, Canva).
- Solid analytical abilities, attention to detail, Experience in systems administration and integration (people ID login and permission management, flow of information from one system to another)
- User support and training - This position will be responsible for supporting both staff and volunteers, the ability to translate complex technical processes for a senior-dominated demographic will be an asset
- Collaboration - experience with cross-functional teams and communication across skill levels.
- A background in information technology or computer science is an asset. These competencies ensure reliable system performance, streamlined digital operations, and successful collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Time Commitment

This position is 25 hours / week, and has flexibility in scheduling work hours to accommodate meetings that occur outside open office hours. The church has open office hours Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10:00am - 3:00pm and Sundays 9:30am - 12:30pm. Salary Range $25-$30 per hour, benefits include vacation pay, retirement contributions, and group health insurance.

Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
