Job Summary

Alberta Film School is looking for an experienced and passionate Photography & Videography Instructor to teach day or evening classes at our Edmonton campus.

We are looking for someone who not only understands photography and videography, but can explain, demonstrate, and teach these skills clearly to beginners.

Our classes are highly practical and hands-on. The instructor will guide students through camera operation, lighting, photography, videography, audio, editing, and real-world creative projects while helping them develop confidence with professional equipment and workflows.

What You'll Teach

Topics include:

- Photography and videography fundamentals
- DSLR and mirrorless camera operation
- Shutter speed, aperture, ISO and exposure
- Composition and camera techniques
- Natural and artificial lighting
- Flash and studio lighting
- Video lighting
- Lenses and camera equipment
- Audio and microphone basics
- Lightroom and Photoshop
- Adobe Premiere Pro or similar video editing software
- Portrait, product, event and studio photography
- Practical videography and short-form video production
- Basic business, portfolio and branding skills for creatives

Instructor Responsibilities

- Prepare and review lessons before class.
- Teach concepts in a simple, transparent and engaging way.
- Demonstrate techniques instead of only explaining them verbally.
- Lead hands-on classroom, studio and practical activities.
- Monitor students while they work and provide individual guidance.
- Review student photos, videos, editing and assignments.




- Provide constructive feedback and help students improve.
- Identify students who may be struggling or falling behind.
- Maintain an organized, professional and supportive classroom.
- Learn and follow Alberta Film School's curriculum, classroom systems and instructor procedures.
- Communicate with School management regarding student progress or classroom concerns.
- Help students develop practical skills they can use in real-world photography and videography work.

Qualifications

- Professional experience in photography and videography.
- Photography and video portfolio required.
- Strong understanding of cameras, lenses, exposure and composition.
- Experience with natural, continuous and studio lighting.
- Experience with Lightroom and Photoshop.
- Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro or similar professional video editing software.
- Basic knowledge of microphones and audio recording.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable demonstrating techniques in front of a class.
- Patient and comfortable working with beginners.
- Organized, dependable and willing to prepare before teaching.
- Previous teaching, training or mentorship experience is an asset, but strong industry experience and the ability to teach clearly will also be considered.




- Must be available Monday through Friday for the agreed day or evening class schedule.

What We're Looking For

We are especially interested in instructors who can combine technical knowledge with practical teaching.

You should be comfortable picking up a camera, demonstrating a technique, giving students an activity, walking around the classroom to review their work, answering questions, and helping each student improve.

Our goal is not simply to teach theory. Alberta Film School focuses on hands-on, real-world learning that prepares students to confidently use their skills outside the classroom.

Job Type: Part-time
