Position Summary
The Reintegration Program shifts from Western educational frameworks to a holistic,
community-supported model grounded in First Nations Control of First Nations
Education. Structured around the four quadrants of the Medicine Wheel, the program
balances academic needs with spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being. It supports
K-12 and Adult 12 students facing difficult or unforeseen circumstances that impact
attendance.
The Reintegration Worker will identify students who are at risk of dropping out or has
low attendance regardless of grade. Work collaboratively with parents, guardians,
Kokoms, Moshooms, osimihwawa (grandchildren), and ochapanyihwawa (great-
grandchildren), to strengthen family-led support systems. The Reintegration Worker
operates alongside the in-school Miyawyawin Centre to foster a trauma-informed
learning environment. Together, they help students develop essential life skills,
including emotional regulation, self-esteem, anxiety management, and personal
motivation.
The position is located on the First Nation Community of James Smith Cree Nation, with
duties expected to commence for the School Year 2026-2027. The Reintegration
Specialist will work under the School Principal's supervision.
No accommodations are currently available within the community. School staff travel
into the community from local towns and cities such as Melfort and Prince Albert.

Overview
The Reintegration Specialist at Bernard Constant Community School drives student
engagement, belonging, and persistence to support successful progression toward
graduation for K-12 and Adult 12 students.

Utilizing counselling-informed, trauma-sensitive, and relationship-based mentoring
approaches, the role provides school-based psychosocial and relational support to
strengthen both student well-being and family-led support systems.

The Specialist operates strictly within professional school standards, maintaining clear
boundaries regarding clinical treatment, statutory authority, and external service
delivery.





Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor of Social Work, Education degree or
related experience:

- Degree or diploma in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Indigenous Studies,

Psychology, Education, or a related Human Services field;

- Minimum of three years of experience working with Indigenous youth, adults,

and families in an educational, community, or wellness-focused capacity;

- a combination of relevant community leadership experience, deep cultural

knowledge, and non-formal human services training will be highly valued and
considered;

- speaking the Cree Language would be an asset; and

- preference will be given to existing employees and to members of the First

Nations participating in the East Centre First Nations Education Authority.

The following are mandatory requirements for the position:

- a satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check;

- a valid driver’s licence; and

- a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate and a First Aid Certificate

would be an asset.

Abilities and Skills, Experience, Knowledge and Understanding.
The successful applicant should have the following knowledge, abilities and skills,
experience and understanding:

- a comprehensive understanding of the history, principles, and value of First

Nations Control of First Nations Education;

- ability to collaborate and drive consensus on student needs and intervention

plans across a diverse group of school personnel. (Administrators, Learning
Supports, Catalysts, and Miyawyawin Centre);

- ability to communicate respectfully and build trust with all generations, case

management and providing direct support services to students;
- demonstrated ability to apply the Medicine Wheel framework practically to

balance spiritual, emotional, physical, and academic well-being;
- expertise in guiding data collection, analysis of data and data-based inquiry to

ensure identification of students at risk factors and intervention needs, including
reporting and gathering student data for ECFNEA;

- knowledge of a holistic approach to student support including family and

community engagement;
- strong verbal and written communication skills; and

- Understanding of the specific social, historical and geographical context of the

Bernard Constant Community School and the James Smith Cree Community
including the Chakastaypasin Band of the Cree Nation, the James Smith Cree
Nation and the Peter Chapman Band.





Duties and Responsibilities
The following are the primary duties and responsibilities of the position:

- create an atmosphere of innovation, teamwork, and creativity within the team;

- act as a liaison between students and all education systems such as teachers,

Miyawyawin staff and school administrators;

- acts as a liaison between students and all education systems such as teachers,

Miyawyawin staff and school administrators;

- conduct home visits to reengage students with attendance issues and graduation

plans;

- monitor and track student progress towards graduation and develop a post-

graduation plan and/or plan for a diploma or certificate wherever appropriate;
- partner with Miyawyawin, Learning Supports, Literacy and Numeracy Catalysts,

and administrators to identify school-based strategies and solutions to address
attendance, dropout prevention, and Response to Intervention supports.

- partner with the Land-based and Cree language programs to facilitate learning

activities both within the classroom and/or outdoor land-based cultural activities;

- partner with the Land-based and Cree Language Programs to facilitate learning

activities both within the classroom and/or outdoor land-based cultural activities;

- support the dropout intervention, school attendance policies, and redesign work

by establishing the tools, procedures, and processes for providing interventions;
and

- visit students and their families in their homes to review their attendance and

graduation plans. Support families to access community programs and resources
and maintain ongoing open communication.

Salary and Benefits
Salary/Wages commensurate with credentials and experience. Extended health
benefits, vacation or holiday pay, and personal/sick leave may be available depending
on contract terms.
