Position Summary RackAir is seeking an experienced unionized local 787 HVAC/R Service Technician to join our growing Toronto operation.

This position will be one of the core field-service roles supporting RackAir’s expansion throughout the GTA. The technician will be responsible for completing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, service calls, and smaller project work across commercial and multi-residential properties.

The successful candidate must be capable of working independently, communicating professionally with customers, documenting equipment conditions thoroughly, and identifying deficiencies and repair opportunities while maintaining RackAir’s standards for workmanship and service.

As an early member of the Toronto service team, this individual will also play an key role in establishing consistent field practices as the operation grows.

Primary Responsibilities

Perform commercial HVAC/R service, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.

Complete scheduled preventive maintenance programs accurately and on time.

Diagnose mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, hydronic, and control-related equipment issues.

Rooftop units

Split systems and heat pumps

Water-source heat pumps

Boilers and hydronic systems

Pumps and associated mechanical equipment

Cooling towers

Exhaust and ventilation systems

VRF/VRV systems

Basic BAS and control systems

Complete emergency and reactive service calls throughout the GTA.

Identify deficiencies, equipment failures, lifecycle concerns, and opportunities for corrective work.





Develop clear repair recommendations with sufficient field information for accurate quoting.

Complete approved repairs and smaller quoted projects.

Maintain detailed service documentation, equipment records, photos, readings, and recommendations through RackAir's field-service software.

Communicate equipment conditions and recommended next steps clearly to customers and the Service Manager.

Verify equipment operation following maintenance or repairs.

Maintain assigned service vehicle, tools, instruments, and company equipment.

Follow RackAir safety procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.

Participate in the on-call rotation as the Toronto service department expands.

Customer & Field Expectations The technician will represent RackAir directly with building operators, property managers, facility managers, condominium managers, and other customer representatives.

Ownership of assigned service calls from arrival through completion.

Qualifications Preferred

Ontario 313A Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic licence.

G2 or G1 Gas Technician certification.

Strong electrical and refrigeration troubleshooting ability.

Experience with commercial and multi-residential mechanical systems.

Valid Ontario driver's licence with an acceptable driving record.

Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Experience with boilers, hydronics, BAS controls, VRF systems, water-source heat pumps, cooling towers, and commercial refrigeration is considered an asset.

Contribution to the growth and development of the Toronto service operation.

Role Within the Toronto Expansion This is not intended to be a narrowly defined maintenance position.

As RackAir's Toronto operation grows, this technician will be expected to become a dependable field resource capable of independently handling customer sites, supporting new account onboarding, identifying additional work, and helping establish the service standards that future Toronto technicians will follow.
