About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Design Engineer specializing in energy storage systems to join their established team in Kimberley. This role is instrumental in the design and development of innovative battery energy storage solutions that enhance grid stability and support renewable energy integration. You will lead design efforts, perform complex calculations, and ensure that our energy storage projects meet rigorous safety, performance, and regulatory requirements.

This is a prime opportunity for an experienced engineer to contribute to the future of energy management in the Northern Cape.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the electrical design and engineering of battery energy storage systems (BESS), including AC/DC interfaces, power conversion systems, and control logic.

Perform detailed electrical calculations, system sizing, and component selection for BESS projects.

Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, protection coordination studies, and technical specifications.

Ensure designs comply with all relevant industry standards, codes, and safety regulations (e.g., IEEE, IEC, local electrical codes).

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, civil, software) to ensure integrated system design and functionality.





Provide technical support during the manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and testing phases of energy storage projects.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical design engineering, with at least 4 years focused on energy storage systems or power electronics.

Strong understanding of battery technologies, power conversion systems (PCS), and grid interconnection requirements for storage.

Proficiency in electrical design and simulation software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, PSCAD).

Experience with project management principles and managing engineering deliverables.

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills, with a keen eye for detail in Kimberley engineering projects.
