About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Soil Scientist to contribute to agricultural development initiatives in the Kimberley, Northern Cape region. This role is essential for understanding and improving soil health, fertility, and management practices to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability. You will conduct soil analyses, develop soil management plans, and provide expert advice to farmers and agricultural stakeholders.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong academic background in soil science and practical experience in agricultural applications, with a deep understanding of the unique soil challenges in the Northern Cape.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive soil sampling and analysis to assess physical, chemical, and biological properties.

Interpret soil analysis data to diagnose fertility issues, nutrient deficiencies, and soil degradation problems.

Develop and recommend soil management strategies, including fertilization programs, liming, cover cropping, and erosion control.

Provide expert advice to farmers on best practices for soil conservation and sustainable land management.

Collaborate with agronomists and other agricultural professionals to integrate soil management into broader farm plans.





Conduct field trials to evaluate the effectiveness of different soil improvement techniques.

Maintain detailed records of soil analyses and recommendations for reporting and future reference.

Requirements

Master's degree or Ph.D. in Soil Science, Agronomy, or a related environmental science field.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in soil analysis, interpretation, and agricultural advisory services.

In-depth knowledge of soil chemistry, physics, and biology, with specific understanding of arid and semi-arid soil conditions relevant to Kimberley.

Proficiency in using laboratory equipment for soil analysis and data interpretation software.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate technical information effectively.
