About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Substation Engineer to join their established engineering department in Kimberley . This role is critical for the design, implementation, and maintenance of electrical substations that are vital for power distribution and transmission networks. You will work on projects involving high-voltage equipment, protection systems, and control infrastructure, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the electrical grid.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in power systems engineering and a proven ability to manage substation projects from concept to completion, contributing to the robust energy infrastructure of the Northern Cape.

Key Responsibilities

Design and engineer electrical substation layouts, including high-voltage equipment selection, busbar arrangements, and grounding systems.

Develop protection and control schemes for substations, including relay settings and coordination studies.

Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations for substation projects.

Oversee the construction, installation, and commissioning of substation equipment, ensuring compliance with standards and project requirements.





Perform site inspections and investigations, providing technical support and troubleshooting for existing substation facilities.

Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.

Minimum of 6 years of experience in substation design and engineering.

Proficiency in substation design software, such as AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar.

Solid understanding of high-voltage equipment, protection relays, and control systems.

Knowledge of relevant electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
