Alberta Health Services’ Emergency Health Services (EHS) is seeking a GIS or Geography student for an eight-month co-op placement with its Ambulance Dispatch GIS team in Calgary.

This is an opportunity to apply GIS in an operational healthcare and emergency-response workplace. The successful student will join the EHS GIS team and work within an Esri Enterprise environment supporting the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system used to locate and route emergency medical resources to incidents across Alberta.

The position has a strong focus on the quality, accuracy and maintenance of the geospatial information used by ambulance dispatch. The student’s work directly supports EHS personnel responding to medical emergencies, where accurate location information and routing can be time-critical.

Responsibilities include:

- Editing and updating map features within an Esri enterprise geodatabase
- Normalizing and standardizing GIS datasets
- Georeferencing imagery
- Digitizing map features
- Performing GIS data validation and quality-control work
- Applying topology and attribute rules
- Maintaining geospatial data used by EHS dispatch solutions
- Working with the EHS GIS team and participating in regular in-person team meetings in Calgary

Applicants must currently be registered full-time in a GIS,



Geography or related post-secondary program. They should have experience using ArcGIS Pro , editing Esri geodatabases, GIS data validation, topology and attribute rules, georeferencing, and quality control. Strong communication and task-management skills are also required.

Applicants must include a portfolio demonstrating their cartography experience with their application.

Experience with FME Form or Hexagon/Intergraph technology is considered an asset, as is previous experience in government or emergency services.
