Location: NVSSS Shelter (Knights Inn), Merritt, BC
Reports to: Shelter Manager
Wage: $27.00 per hour
NVSSS invites current employees to apply for the permanent part time SSW-10 Floater position.
The Shelter Support Worker provides trauma-informed, person-centred support to shelter participants. Responsibilities include responding to crises, using de-escalation and harm-reduction practices, completing wellness and security checks, maintaining accurate records, preparing incident reports and helping maintain a secure and clean shelter environment.
Applicants should have
Experience supporting people experiencing homelessness,
mental-health challenges or substance use;
Solid communication, conflict-resolution and crisis-intervention skills;
Knowledge of trauma-informed care and harm reduction;
The ability to work independently and make sound decisions during night shifts; and
Relevant human-services education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
