Position Description

The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position in the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical). The successful candidate will be based at Santé Québec Centre-Ouest-de-l'Île-de-Montréal – Universitaire, with primary clinical responsibilities at the Constance-Lethbridge site of the Lethbridge-Layton-Mackay (LLM) Rehabilitation Centre. The professorial rank will be determined according to the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. Constance Lethbridge is one of McGill’s major rehabilitation teaching sites affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. The teams at LLM are dedicated to working with clients to fully maximize their autonomy and participation in the community through specialized and ultra-specialized rehabilitation services to adults living with physical disabilities across a broad range of neurological, musculoskeletal, and complex rehabilitation conditions while also supporting their families.

Job Duties

As a Clinician-Teacher, the successful candidate’s major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of physicians. Teaching activity will include both didactic and clinical teaching. As a Clinician-Educator, you will focus on education research of sufficient caliber to publish in peer-reviewed journals or education administration with a focus on leading/developing world‑class training programs.

The successful candidate will be assigned to the career path that best matches their qualifications and experience.

Clinical duties will include consultation, comprehensive functional assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and longitudinal follow-up for individuals with complex rehabilitation needs. Working within an interdisciplinary rehabilitation environment, the successful candidate will provide medical expertise and collaborate with rehabilitation professionals to optimize function, mobility, participation, pain management, and community reintegration.

- Stroke and acquired brain injury

- Traumatic brain injury

- Chronic neurological conditions

- Post-polio syndrome

- Neuro-musculoskeletal conditions

- Chronic pain, including complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS)

- Severe motor impairments and mobility limitations

- Complex mobility, positioning, and specialized assistive technology needs

Clinical interventions may include

- Spasticity assessment and management, including injection therapies





- Musculoskeletal and neuromuscular rehabilitation management

- Ultrasound-guided and other image-guided peripheral joint injections

- Prescription of orthoses, assistive devices, and adaptive equipment

- Return-to-work planning and vocational rehabilitation support

- Integration of tele-rehabilitation and virtual care approaches, where appropriate

The successful candidate will contribute to quality improvement, program development, clinical pathway design, program evaluation, and initiatives aimed at improving access, continuity of care, patient outcomes, and interdisciplinary rehabilitation practice. The position will support the continued development and expansion of physiatry services within Santé Québec Centre-Ouest-de-l'Île-de-Montréal – Universitaire, including initiatives that promote value-based rehabilitation care and the measurement of outcomes that matter to patients.

The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees). McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. Qualifications and Education Requirements

- Hold an MD degree and have completed specialty training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

- Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

- Be eligible for licensure in Quebec and certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec

- Have completed at least one additional year of specialty clinical training in neurological rehabilitation

Additional training or experience in clinical research is considered an asset. Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
