Montreal

Trans-Canada Capital (TCC) is a portfolio management firm specializing in innovative investment strategies for institutional investors. Since 2009, our team has successfully managed the assets of Air Canada's pension funds, one of the largest corporate pension plans in the country. Over the years, we have built an enviable reputation for generating superior returns through alpha-generating strategies within a rigorous risk management framework.

With $30 billion CA in assets under management (including leverage), over 100 investment professionals based in Montreal and Toronto, and a comprehensive range of alternative solutions, TCC is well-positioned to meet the needs of institutional investors seeking stable returns.

Few positions at this level offer exposure to both public and private markets. This generalist role covers private market funds, hedge funds, public equities, and co-investments, providing the Associate with exposure to a wide range of investment strategies, manager types, and asset classes. TCC operates with an agile and entrepreneurial team structure, allowing the Associate to assume real responsibilities and work directly alongside senior professionals in a collaborative environment.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Equities and Alternative Investments, the Associate will contribute to TCC's externally managed portfolios, supporting the team on private market funds, hedge fund strategies, public equity strategies, and certain co-investments. The role is generalist in nature, combining rigorous quantitative and qualitative analysis with active relationship management. The successful candidate will manage their workload autonomously, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate the discipline and initiative required to advance mandates.

Responsibilities

- Maintain and improve portfolio monitoring reports and tools covering exposures to externally managed funds in both public and private markets, analyzing performance, attribution, and risk, and delivering clear, actionable findings to the investment team.
- Contribute to the preliminary screening and prioritization of fund opportunities in private markets, hedge funds, and public equities; perform initial quantitative filters with guidance from a senior team member and maintain structured peer groups for comparative analysis.
- Contribute to the due diligence of external funds and co-investments, focusing on investment processes, risk management frameworks, and terms, including:
- analysis of return histories (attribution, risk-adjusted measures, factor and style exposures) and judgment regarding their statistical reliability given history length, return frequency,

valuation lag, and peer universe construction;
- private market cash flow modeling and quantitative peer mapping;
- single-asset co-investment analysis, including stress-testing the sponsor's financial model.

- Conduct market research and monitor macroeconomic and sectoral developments, contributing to thematic idea generation across asset classes.
- Contribute to the preparation of investment memos, research notes, and presentation materials to support portfolio decisions and External Management Investment Committee (EMIC) discussions.
- Contribute to the preparation of investment memos, research notes, and presentation materials, and participate in EMIC meetings focusing on market developments, idea generation, and the review of fund and co-investment opportunities.
- Interact with external managers, consultants, and institutional peers to support relationship management and market intelligence.
- Leverage AI-assisted tools to enhance due diligence data analysis, streamline processes, and improve the synthesis of investment findings.
- Support the integration of sustainable investment practices into manager due diligence and ongoing monitoring, contributing to TCC's responsible investment initiatives.
