Nine-day work cycle, typically resulting in every other Monday off to support a balanced approach to work, family life and community. Manitoba Hydro is recruiting Technologists for a career in Relay Protection & Control with employment to commence in February 2027. Those who currently meet the qualifications, or those who will be graduating with the required qualifications by January 2027 are invited to apply. Upon completion of a two-year training program that involves field experience and advanced theoretical and practical courses, you will install, maintain and repair all types of protective relaying (line, generator, transformer, etc.), control metering,
and recording systems. Successful applicants are required to work and may be stationed at various locations throughout the province. Trainees must demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and are expected to follow all safety protocols and Safe Work Procedures.
Qualifications
A diploma from an accredited Electrical Engineering Technology program, or Equivalent certification as an Engineering Technologist with the Certified Technicians and Technologists Association of Manitoba (CTTAM), or Completion of a Technology Accreditation Canada (TAC) accredited Electrical Engineering Technology program.
Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence (intermediate or full) or equivalent.
Capable of interpreting schematics and wiring diagrams.
High degree of mechanical ability.
Aptitude for technical skills involving computer, electrical and electronic equipment.
Accurate colour perception.
Physically capable of performing all the duties of the position.
Willing to relocate to various locations within Manitoba.
Salary Range
The range for the classification Protection Trainee is $31.46-$35.47 Hourly, $60,283.34-$67,969.46 Annually. Following successful completion of the training program, the journeyperson range for the classification is $43.91-$53.78 Hourly, $84,148.48-$103,055.42 Annually.
