Air Canada offers its pilots great career prospects. According to the most recent information, it takes three to five years to become a Narrow‑Body Captain, whose average salary ranges between $255,000 and $291,000, plus expenses. It takes 11 to 15 years to become a Wide‑Body Captain, whose average salary ranges between $315,000 and $397,000, plus expenses. Air Canada pilots operate flights departing from one of our four crew bases: Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, and Vancouver.



They normally begin their career as First Officers on domestic flights or as Relief Pilots on long‑haul international flights.

Qualifications To work at Air Canada, pilots must meet certain basic requirements:
2,000 hours of fixed‑wing flight time
Ability to meet Air Canada and Transport Canada medical and visual acuity requirements to obtain a Category 1 medical certificate
Hold a Canadian Airline Transport Pilot Licence, Multi-Engine Class 1 Instrument Rating
Canadian passport
Eligibility to obtain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
Eligibility to work in Canada and travel unrestricted across Air Canada's entire network. Obtaining permits, visas,



or other authorizations that may be required (the sole responsibility of candidates applying for this position)
Pilot applications far exceed job openings. Preference will therefore be given to candidates whose qualifications go beyond the basic requirements. Examples of desirable additional qualifications:
Degree from a college or university obtained following a three- or four‑year program of study
College diploma in aviation
Flight experience in a commercial or military environment
Flight experience with a multi‑crew jet or turboprop aircraft
