Overview

We are looking for a hands-on QA Automation Lead / Architect to assess, improve, and modernize the QA automation practice for a complex desktop application environment.

The application is a mature, highly customized client-server product with hundreds of screens, C#/.NET components, SQL-heavy backend logic, and business-critical workflows. The successful candidate will not simply execute existing test scripts. They will evaluate the current automation approach, identify gaps, recommend practical improvements, and help implement a more scalable, maintainable, and effective automation framework.

Responsibilities

- Assess the current QA automation framework, tools, coverage, maintainability, and execution process.
- Identify gaps in automation coverage, test data strategy, regression testing, reporting, and framework design.
- Create a practical automation improvement roadmap with explicit priorities and measurable outcomes.
- Design, build, and enhance desktop application automation frameworks.
- Develop hands-on proof-of-concept solutions and working automation examples.
- Automate testing for complex desktop workflows, backend services, database interactions, and regression scenarios.
- Work with QA, development, product, and business stakeholders to understand workflows and translate them into testable automation scenarios.
- Use SQL to validate backend data, prepare test data, troubleshoot failures, and support data-driven testing.
- Establish automation standards, reusable components, coding practices, and documentation.
- Mentor QA team members on automation best practices, framework design, troubleshooting, and maintainability.
- Improve test reliability, execution speed, reporting, and long-term automation value.
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Experience

- 5+ years of QA automation experience, including at least 2+ years with desktop application test automation.
- Hands-on experience with TestComplete for desktop application automation, or comparable desktop automation framework experience.
- Experience with QA/test management tools such as qTest.
- Solid SQL skills for backend validation, test data setup, troubleshooting, and data-driven automation.
- Proven experience designing, building,



or significantly improving automation frameworks.
- Experience assessing existing automation environments and creating practical improvement roadmaps.
- Strong understanding of regression testing, test coverage, reusable automation design, and maintainability.
- Ability to work in complex, mature, partially documented application environments.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and mentor others.

Nice to Have

- Experience automating WPF, WinForms, or other rich desktop applications.
- Experience testing C#/.NET applications, WCF/services, REST APIs, and SQL Server-backed systems.
- Experience in healthcare, pharmacy, retail, POS, insurance, banking, or other workflow-heavy regulated environments.

- Experience assessing existing automation environments and creating practical improvement roadmaps.
- Strong understanding of regression testing, test coverage, reusable automation design, and maintainability.
- Ability to work in complex, mature, partially documented application environments.
