Position Summary:
The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing, monitoring, and reporting on manufacturing and operational costs to support business decision-making and financial performance. This role works closely with operations, manufacturing engineering, procurement, inventory, and finance teams to ensure accurate product costing, inventory valuation, variance analysis, budgeting, and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
Cost Accounting & Analysis

Maintain and update standard costs for products, materials, and labor.

Analyze actual production costs and compare against standard costs.

Investigate and explain purchase price, labor, manufacturing, and inventory variances.

Perform margin and profitability analysis by product, customer, and business segment.

Support inventory valuation and cost allocation methodologies.

Inventory Management

Reconcile inventory balances and investigate discrepancies.

Participate in physical inventory counts and cycle count programs.

Monitor inventory reserves, obsolescence, and slow-moving inventory.

Ensure inventory transactions are accurately recorded in the ERP system.

Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end inventory reporting activities.

Prepare monthly and quarterly cost accounting reports.

Assist with month-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.

Analyze manufacturing overhead and absorption rates.

Support internal and external audit requirements.

Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and internal controls.





Complete Ad-Hoc reporting and projects as assigned and assist with other duties as required

Budgeting & Forecasting

Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.

Provide cost assumptions and analysis to support operational planning.

Monitor actual results against budgets and forecasts.

Maintain Landed Standard Cost in Salesforce

Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.

Business Partnering

Partner with operations and production teams to improve cost visibility and operational efficiency.

Provide financial analysis to support pricing, capital investment, and strategic initiatives.

Develop and maintain cost models for new and existing products.

Participate in continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.

Position requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.

Professional accounting designation (CPA) preferred or in progress.

3-5+ years of accounting or cost accounting experience.

Experience in manufacturing, industrial, mining, construction, or production environments preferred.

Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, JDE, or similar.

Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and inventory accounting.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, Power Query, and financial modeling.

Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.

Knowledge of internal controls and financial reporting processes.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

High attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Salary Range: $115,000 - $130,000 CAD annually.
