Duties
The successful candidate will prepare media and reagents for experiments; extract components from plant materials; perform analysis on samples using HPLC, GC and other analytical equipment.
Intent of the process
The immediate need is to staff one position for a 1-year full time term appointment. A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various employment tenures.

Operational Requirements - Ability and willingness to work overtime.

- With appropriate safety precautions in place, able and willing to work in laboratory, greenhouse,



field and/or animal rearing facility environments for extended periods at a time; able and willing to work outdoors under various weather conditions and under normal safety precautions able and willing to work with hazardous materials.

Education:
Bachelor degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in food chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, chemistry, biological sciences, animal science or food science.At a later stage in the selection process, you will be required to provide documentation verifying your educational credentials.If you were educated outside of Canada, you must have your certificates and/or diplomas assessed against Canadian education standards. Experience:
Experience in planning and conducting research projects in a research or laboratory environment.
Experience in the use of word processing software such as Word, and database software such as Excel.
Experience in the use of equipment used for analytical chemistry research such as: High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), UV–Vis spectrophotometry and ELISA.
Applied / assessed at a later date
Knowledge:
Knowledge of laboratory equipment and associated methodologies, tools, theories and practices such as: sample preparation and extraction methods, solution and standard preparation, calibration curve development.
Knowledge of food chemical safety and chemical analysis of foods.
Knowledge of basic microbiological and mycological techniques, protein and biochemical techniques.
Knowledge of statistical analysis.
Abilities:
Ability to set up laboratory equipment.
Ability to make observations,



collect and record data accurately and interpret and analyze results.
Ability to write reports and posters and to assist in drafting scientific papers.
