Geomatic technician (EG-05) duties

Carry out work related to various needs in geomatics and participate in the planning, organization and coordination of this work such as:

Collect, calculate, analyze, validate, disseminate and archive data related to geomatics, in collaboration with the senior geomatics technician.

Help prepare files and other documents required to carry out surveying work as part of field surveys.

Help choose methods and equipment to be used to carry out geodetic and technical surveys according to requirements.

Collect, verify and update technical and descriptive data on infrastructure covered by various Canadian Coast Guard programs.

Maintain, adjust, calibrate, check and manage equipment and instrument inventory used in the geomatics sector.

Senior geomatic technician (EG-06) duties

Planning, organizing, coordinating, and completing work related to various geomatics requirements, such as:

As part of field surveys, preparing files and other documents required for the completion of survey work.

Identifying and selecting the method and tools to be used to complete geodesic and technical surveys based on requirements.

Collecting, calculating, analyzing, validating, disseminating, and archiving data related to the various fields of geomatics.

Gathering, verifying, and updating the technical and descriptive data of infrastructure under various programs of the Canadian Coast Guard.

Planning and supervising the daily work of a field team.

Intent of the process
The actual intent of this process is to fill one (1)



EG-06 position on an indeterminate basis in Quebec city. A pool of EG-05 and EG-06 qualified candidates will be established through this process and will be used to staff identical or similar positions at the Department of National Defence across Canada.

EDUCATION (ALL STREAM)

Post-secondary diploma in geomatics, geodesy or surveying OR a university degree in geomatics OR an acceptable combination of education, training and (or) experience approved by the employeur.

EXPERIENCE (ALL STREAMS)

Experience in topographic surveys or in geodesy or in mapping involving the use of various equipment used in these specific fields such as GPS, Total Station, Level, etc.

Experience in drafting technical documents and using Microsoft Office Suite software

Experience in processing field datas with specialized softwares such as LISCAD, AutoCAD, Infinity or equivalent

Applied / assessed at a later date

SENIOR GEOMATIC TECHNICIAN (EG-06) ONLY

Experience coordinating field surveying operations conducted by a team

KNOWLEDGE (ALL STREAMS)

Knowledge of the fundaments and methods used in the fields of geomatics, such as legal surveying, geodesy and mapping (satellite positioning mode, vertical and horizontal reference systems, databases, etc.)

Knowledge of topographic and geodetic surveying involving the use of various specialized equipment and software in these fields (such as GPS, total station, levels)

Valid drone pilot certificate

Valid Small Vessels Operators Certificate.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of the various programs and shore-based assets of the Canadian Coast Guard

Knowledge of the navigable waterways in the St. Lawrence sector.
