Annapolis Valley First Nation School is looking for a for a patient, kind and understanding individual who respect the strengths and challenges of our students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
an awareness of and respect for learning differences in children with special needs
knowledge of health, hygiene and safety
understanding of behavior management
knowledge of basic computer applications and technology
ability to work collaboratively with members of a team
ability to follow instructions of teachers
assist teachers in preparation of materials
Assist in promoting student’s emotional growth, well-being, and independence
encourage the development of student dignity and self-esteem;
facilitate positive interactions among all students;
motivate students and encourage student participation
assist in the implementation and tracking of behavior management plans as developed by the school team
provide tutorial support for students from all grades, including the Adult education program
The preferred qualifications of an EA for the AVFN School include
Education Assistant certification, or a diploma in human services, teaching assistance or other social science program
ability to physically perform the requirements of the position
a desire to work with children and youth
respect for confidentiality and privacy protocols
sensitivity and respect for diversity
Current certification in CPR, First Aid and non-violent crisis intervention are required
This position is a full time seasonal position from September until June, with the possibility of renewal.
